A childhood belief about general

Whenever we ate shepherd's pie for dinner my mam would tell me that there was a shepherd in every shepherd's pie so that I'd eat it, since I didn't like the dish. When I was finished but hadn't found the shepherd, my dad would say that he'd eaten it by mistake. This fooled me for years.
