When I was in 3rd grade, we had this spelling test. One of the words we had was "beach" which I misspelled it as "bech". Shortly after turning it in, I started freaking out, since I thought "bech" might be how you spell "bitch" (as I'd only ever heard it that word out loud), and thus I spent most of the day terrified that I'd get in trouble for writing a swear word on my test.
A childhood belief about spelling

others believed things like this
- In first grade, I thought that if I've never heard of a word before, then it wasn't a word.— Destiny
- I thought the word economical was actually two words: eek and omical.
— Nancy M. - everybody else were robots and I was a human test!
— Chas - I used to believe that whenever I got an F on a test it stood for fantastic. — megan
- If you pick Dandelions then you wet your pants. Honestly...I've never tried and I'm not going to test it!— Charlene
- I used to believe that the words Angliphile and Francophile were related to the word paedophiles.Anon
