I used to believe…

When I was real young like 4 or 5, I and a friend were in my room, and we both had to pee. So for some unknown reason I suggested we could go in the closet, and we did, one at a time, closing the door for privacy. I seem to remember that I thought it was okay to pee anywhere, because it would disappear after a while. Oh, I also remember peeing in the trashcan, again for no particular reason other than I had to go, and the bathroom was further away.

My brother used to tell me that the squidgy bits in mushroom soup were owl guts!

Before I could understand about what happened to my food, I ussed to believe that my body was, in fact, a huge country with little men in lab coats running around inside. My food would go to build their houses or to feed them. My stomach growling was them with this huge mortar and pestle, grinding up stuff for themselves. At least I would always eat everything "necessary" :)

I used to be that diarrhoea was an ear infection (dire ear). I recall one time when my mum's friend was telling her that she had a bad case of it and I piped up saying 'I get that often too, especially if I've been poking my ears!'

I used to believe…

When I was about 5 I used to believe that I could hear an army of soldiers coming after me and getting closer and closer. Later it turned out to be the way I was lying forced my ear against an artery and what I could hear was my own pulse. Which explains why they got faster when I got scared about it...

I was always a quizzical kid. Back in the mid 1970's, I was asking what the word "leisure" was. My sister, who was getting tired of all of my questions, told me that "leisure" meant "fart". Of course my next question was why would anybody want to wear a "fart suit". Even today when certain body functions are churnning, I say that I "leisured".

I went out with a guy in his early 20's (!!) who thought that women sat down to pee because they pee'd out their bottoms!

I used to believe…

In kindergarten, a friend of mine arrived to school whispering to me that she had lost her voice. I had believed that her voice ran off and was hiding somewhere waiting to be found, so I immediately volunteered to help her find her voice around the classroom.

When I was about 13 years old I wondered if black people had the same body functions as the white people. Why did I think this? Because from what I heard the grown ups say about the black folk made them seem so different in every way to white people.

when i was younger i used to love storm from x men because of her ability to fly and create weather change and somehow i thought that by staring at the sun long enough i would eventually become the goddess of the sun and cause weather changes too!

When i was a child i heard people talking about getting Aids from the needle, one day i was playing with my microscope kit which had a needle type thing with it and accidently poked myself well for along time i thought i had Aids. i would cry at night because i was scared to go to sleep because i thought i would die

I used to believe…

When my brother was little, he could never sit down, even to eat. My mother told him that if he stood while eating, all the food would go to his feet and they would get huge, but he wouldn't grow an inch. She told me, too, but I always sat anyway

At the tender age of five life was a world of amazement. Cellotape (sticky tape) came under this catagory, I remember asking my mom if the doctors could cellotape your head back on if it was chopped off, she re-assured me that they could.

When I was about six or seven I remember running up to my dad and asking him how fast he thought I'd been moving. I heard "60 miles an hour". Can you imagine how proud I was? I boasted this to every kid in the playground over the next few months!

It was only a few years later - once we'd started looking at velocity at school - that I realised he must have said "six" not "sixty"...

I used to believe that i had the special power of controlling traffic lights.

When i was 7 or 8 I thought I was able to turn traffic lights from red to green by clenching my jaw for 5 seconds.

After I found out that my special powers were no longer working I figured that I had unconciously traded them for the special powere to change the shape of clouds

I had my third child when my oldest was only 4 years old. I took it for granted that he understood what breastfeeding was since I had breastfed his younger brother for a year and now was breastfeeding his little sister. One night when I was feeding her on the couch, I winced and sort-of let out a yelp as she first latched on. My oldest son was watching and said, "Mommy, do you want me to go get her a bottle so she doesn't have to eat your body?" It was so sweet and pitiful! I tried to explain breastfeeding as best as you can to a 4 year old!
