I used to believe that the more sick you were, the more medicine you should take to get better... my parents really should have kept the medicine out of my reach... I tested my theory one day when I had a bad cough. All I got was a stomach-pumping and some activated charcoal.

When I was young I wasn't the most popular girl in school and I thought the popular people could read my mind so they didn't like me for my thoughts. Soon I began thinking popular thoughts all the time like "I can wait to go to the mall today." and "Me and my boyfriend kissed yestreday" and "I wonder if i left my Cell on." stuff like that. Turns out they didnt have super powers but their parents VISA cards.

I used to believe…

Upon asking my mum why she never farted, she told me that mum's couldn't fart after having children, because it messed up 'that' part of your body. And I think I actually believed it well into my teens!

I used to believe…

When I was little, I always thought that if you held a burp in, it turned into a fart; and if you held in a fart, it turned into a burp.

I used to believe…

My parents use to tell my siblings and I that if we played in a fire before bed that we would pee on the bed at night. We wanted to play in the fire they made somtimes sooo badly but, we didnt because we did not want to pee on the bed!!!

I used to believe…

when i was younger my bed was by the wall, i would never sleep with my back to the room, always facing out with my back to the wall just in case a ghost would pinch my bum

I used to believe…

When I was little, my mum told me not to swallow chewing gum. I asked why, and the reason she gave me was totally unsatisfactory, or at least kind of partial. Like: "Because your stomach can't digest it." To 6-year-old me, that was just not satisfying as an explanation. The same with toothpaste.

So in my head I imagined that everybody's stomach has lots of different compartments, each for a different type of food. There'd be one for peas, one for roast beef, one for spaghetti, etc. But things that aren't food don't have their own compartment. So when you swallowed chewing gum, the whole system would get messed up because the gum wouldn't know where to go.

This theory also had the nice benefit of explaining why you've always got room for pudding :o)

I used to believe that when I changed the quality and characteristics of sounds I heard by clinching my teeth or covering my ears I was changing the sound for everyone. I always worried that if I did it too often or with too many people around someone would figure out it was me and Id get in trouble.

I used to believe…

I used to think I was the only one who could hear the electrical hum created by turning on the television, radio, microwave, etc. I believed I was special because I could tell from several rooms away if someone had turned on an appliance. I one day confided in my dad about my secret ability to hear electricity. Rather than dispel the myth, he pretended he had no idea what I was talking about and insisted there was no such thing. When I started school and was placed in the Academically Gifted and Talented class I believed this was actually a special class for kids with exceptional abilities like mine something along the lines of Dr Xaviers School for the Gifted in the X-Men comic.

I used to believe…

you know when you squint and light that is far away looks like little rays? I used to believe I had a special power to see light from far away. I would sit in the front seat with my mom as she was driving and tell her when cars were coming from what I perceived as an extreme distance. If the car arrived shortly, I just thought the car was moving extra fast.

when I was younger, my cousin made me believe that if you sat on the toilet too long, your intestines would fall out.

I used to believe…

In order to get me and my older brother to "cover our mouths when we sneezed," our mother told us that "the germs from a sneeze travel all over the world within one second." My brother and I spent the next several days faking sneezes, after which we would hollar out "ONE!" Finally, we were told to knock it off!

you know how people can burp on command? Well i used to believe that if you did that too many times, your stomach would explode. It was pretty sweet.

When i was around three i used to believe that all boys wee'd out of their thumb (the only male i had known being my dad) so therefore stood over the toilet and tried to wee out of my thumb and began to cry when nothing happened. Traumatised for life......

I used to believe…

Once when I was a child, a business associate of my father's came to see him at this shop. That day the associate had his wife and their little girl with him. At one point the girl walked up to her mother and said, "Mommy, I've got to doodoo!" I was astounded, because I must have believed, as I've noticed others on this site have, that girls didn't doodoo. So later at school, I asked my best friend if girls doodoo. I hoped he'd know, since he had two sisters. But he seemed embarrassed and just said nothing. I didn't want to be overheard, but I was, by a girl I didn't trust. She walked up and said, "Are you stupid? Of course girls doodoo!" I wasn't ordinarily comfortable talking to her, but desperate to know, I asked her more. I don't remember the exact details of our conversation. But it continued with her acting as if I were stupid, but ended with her telling me that boys and girls are different only in how they pee, and that both doodoo the same. I wanted to believe, But since I didn't trust her, I ventured to go ask the teacher if she had told me the truth. I told the teacher, "Valerie told me that girls doodoo just the same as boys. Is that true?" The teacher's baffling response was "Only in extreme cases." Did she somehow misunderstand my question? If so, what did she think I was asking? Or was she just somehow cruelly playing with me in a way no teacher should? In any event, I puzzled for years afterwards, thinking girls doodooed much more seldom that boys and wondering what were the extreme cases in which they would doo it.

I used to believe…

When I was younger, I would grow quite bored very often and stare and things and if I was at the right angle it would look like I could see through them. And so I went around and boasted that I had X-ray vision for quite a long time actually.
