I used to believe…

When I was 4 years old I used to believe that I was allergic to rain because whenever it rained my asthma would get worse.

I used to think that if you were sick or injured you couldn't die if you didn't lay down. I noticed that the cowboys in the Westerns didn't die until they fell off their horse or were laying on the ground. Ever try standing up with the MUMPS?

I used to believe…

When I was 3, I used to believe that while
people slept, ambulance used to come
along and mistake sleeping people for
dead people, and take them away.

I used to believe…

my little sister one day received a rather nasty gash above the eye one day (my fault) and she was taken to hospital to get stitches.

I was four at the time, and as I was waiting outside, i kept wondering how on earth the doctor would fit my sister's head under the needle of the sewing machine to insert the stitches...

I used to believe…

My mom told me once that eating meat gave you muscles, so of course I deduced that I could get a temporary power boost from eating a piece of bologna. I used to eat a small piece of a cold cut, then lift up the corner of my bed, thinking I was super-strong

I used to believe…

When I was young I apparently had a curious belief about farting. My parents found this out when I announced, after one particularly loud fart, that I had a horn in my bottom.

I remember seeing a pamphlet in the library about V.D. and even though I couldn't read very well, the basic message was that anybody could catch it. So when my third grade teacher mentioned that wasn't feeling very well I asked her if she had V.D.

i used to believe (until i was about 20) that i needed to stand up when i was wiping my ass. i had never seen anyone wipe before, so it just seemed natural to me that one would stand. it wasnt until my boyfriend commented on it that i realized that it was possible (and preferable) to do it seated!

I used to have trouble sleeping at night. My mother would try to talk me into falling asleep sometimes by saying, "You need your rest, we're getting up at the crack of dawn tomorrow!" What I heard was "We're getting up at the crackadon tomorrow," and I always thought she was talking about some dinosaur that was out roaming about very early in the morning.

I used to believe…

When I was six years old our teacher told us that some people drink their own urine. Being blessed by God I never imagined that a glass or some other recepticle would be used. Imagine my teacher's delight and surprise when she found me with head between knees the next day.

I would have extremely vivid dreams as a child, and fully believed that when I fell asleep I would be transported to another world and live my life there. One night I had a bit of a nightmare (I was falling) and I woke up sort of bouncing in my bed. From that point onward I was convinced that there was an extremely strange little city living above the cealing of my bed...and when just before I woke up every morning I would fall down from it.

I used to believe…

When I was three or four and living in Boston, I was being babysat by a family friend. He had little experience with kids and when I was obstinately refusing to eat my peas, he gave me an ultimatum: if I got off of my chair witout finishing my peas, I would turn into an ant. When my parents came home at midnight, I was still in that chair...

I used to believe…

in my beautiful naive state, i believed getting an erection meant that i was full of pee and needed to go to the bathroom. i was somehow surprised at the difficulty to aim and produce...

I learned the prayer "Now I lay me down to sleep..." to say at bed time, but the line "If I should die before I wake" disturbed me greatly and I was convinced I might die before I woke, so I started trying to sleep as stiff and strait with my arms at my side like the dead.

I used to believe that eating dandelions would make you wet the bed. Often, however, I wet the bed and yet had not eaten any dandelions. Strange logic!

I used to believe…

In elementary school, we all used to believe that there was a nerve between your eyebrows that, if pushed with your thumb, would prevent you from smelling someone's fart. This was called "corking it".

I used to believe…

When I was very young, I saw a commercial for Transformers underwear. A boy put them on and turned into Optimus Prime. I got my mom to buy me some, and I put them on thinking I'd turn into a giant robot, but they didn't work. I thought that I had gotten a broken pair, and was very upset

I used to believe…

When I was younger, as I rode my bike home from school, I saw one of my friends pssing by in a car. After waving to him I decided to race against him on my bike. After I beat him, I was convinced I had some kind of super bike speed thingy power. To make along story short, it was a 15 mile per hour street and they were approaching a stop sign...

I used to believe…

When you hold something up in front of one eye, but not the other you get a transparent image of it. I saw the transparent image once when I was curled up in a blanket, but didn't make the connection that I was using my other eye, so I assumed that I had X-ray vision. My older brother wasn't convinced.

I remember thinking that I could float in midair, or at least that I floated one time. I have a distinct memory of floating across a room, and I think it was a particulary vivid dream.
