I had a blackboard when I was 4-5 and believed if I saved up enough chalkdust, I could sprinkle it on myself and would be able to fly.

I used to believe…

When I was 8, I was told that teenage boys have hollow legs, and that's why they could eat so much! I believed that until I was 12 when I asked my health teacher in school.

I know it sounds mean but to help my toddler, who was terrified of monsters, potty train, my husband and I told him that monsters lived down the toilet hole. The "potty monster" ate poop and pee and if my son used the bathroom in his pants the monsters would come out to him. As long as he used the toilet to feed the monsters they would stay happy and in the toilet. He has been potty trained since he was 2 but now he always flushes even before wiping to make sure the monsters are feed in a hurry.

I never cried when I got a shot at the doctors office as a child because I used to believe that the alcohol they would swab on your arm was a pain killer. Because of mind over matter I felt very little pain.

I used to believe…

Our primary school field was massive, and it had a very steep slope, maybe 70 degrees or so. I used to have such incredibly vivid dreams that i would run off the top, and flap for a bit, then fly around the field. They were so realistic it was pure joy waking up every morning. Strangely, as soon as i realised that they were dreams, they stopped. This was when i was about 8. Im 16 now, and in the 8 years i havent had a single dream that i remember in the morning, compared to at least one every night back then.

I used to believe…

This isn't my belief, but a few years ago my best friend made her little brother believe that if you ate only one food for an entire week (for example, apples), that your farts would smell like apples.
He never got to test the theory because there's no way a parent would let their child eat only one food for an entire week!

I used to believe…

My Dad used to tell me that the snot coming out of my nose was brain matter oozing out - that my nose would eventually quit running because I'd be out of brains!

My Mom let him deal with it when she found me sobbing uncontrollably later in the day ...
