I used to believe…
When I was little I used to believe that when you ate food, it all built up inside. I didn't know about organs so I just thought it all kept piling up. I remember sometimes I would try to think about what level I thought the food was at. I guess I never thought about what happened when you were all filled up!
I had a fear of vomiting, so my mom told me that I couldn't throw up unless I had a fever. I spent many days taking my temperature (the only five year old on the block that knew how to read a thermometer) to make sure I was "OK". Then, as a freshman in college, someone laughed at me and I realized the truth...

I used to belive if someone liftes you up, and you lift them at the same time, you will float in the air.

When I was little and someone sneezed, I would always hear someone say "Bless you" So I thought that's what came out when you sneezed. One day, I sneezed and snot got on my hand. I went to my mom and said "Momma! I got bless you on my hand!" It took everything she had not to roll on the floor from laughing

I had a teacher who told my best friend you could breathe out of your tear ducts. To her disapointment, she could not.
I used to believe that when I breathed in and out, it was my mouth doing the work and not my lungs. And when I saw my chest expanding and retracting, I thought it was weird that it did the opposite of a balloon (when you blow, it expands) so I would try to suck in my gut or push it out and try and reverse the in/out process.

when i was in year 6 (i'm british) my teacher told me that someone once thought if you get tired, your heart stops pumping.

As a child, I used to think you could quench your thirst by repetitively building up spit in your mouth and swallowing it.

When I was younger I did gymnastics. One day I firmly believed that I could forward-roll my way up the stairs. I tried it, only to roll fast back down again and bash my head really hard on the wall at the bottom. Boy, did that hurt.

Since people feel their pulses to count their heartbeats, i would use this fact as a way to test if i was still alive. so one day i couldnt find my pulse, and i thought i was dying and ran to my mom crying asking her to give all my toys to my best freind.

when i was younger i thought that if you farted by a raidiator your bum would explode!
I used to beleive I could fly, I tried to show my mom by flying from my bed to the exposed light in my room. I touched the light and broke it, then I got electracuted and taken to the hospital to recover. I never tried to fly again, exept that time I jumped out of a tree to the sun...I broke my leg.
I used to think that, if you accidentally inhaled while you were blowing up a balloon, you would inflate just like it and start to float like in cartoons. Then when you exhaled you would fly around the room as you deflated.

Presumably this happens to everyone, (unless you're in an outhouse, or a l-o-n-g way above the water).
Payment for the relief you get is often taken immediately in the form of a cold splash, usually dead center, of whatever liquid is in the bowl, I always hope it is just clear water, not mixed with anything yellow.
Which brings me to what I used to believe.
I used to believe that, when doing 'the big job', our body was programmed to do it's business first, and only then did our bladder get it's turn. It worked that way most of the time. I marvelled at the 'rightness' of such an arrangement.
I must admit, though, I still wonder...
I used to believe that you can fly if you wear a cape because all the super heros that can fly wear them. So I often put on a blanket and jump off from a table. I'm still glad I didn't try the balcony.

There's an old joke in my family that's been passed down for generations as a means of curbing pyromaniacal behavior. "If you play with fire (or a campfire [ie: throw weeds, leafs, fireworks, etc. in it]), then you'll wet the bed!" I believed this well into the 7th grade. It has recently been taught to the children of family friends, who rarely play with fire.

when my brother was really little, he somehow learned that cows had more than one stomache, so he naturally assumed that he did too. one night at dinner he informed my mother that he couldn't ea the rest of his dinner cuz he was full. at desert my mother brought this up, and he replied with 'my dinner stomache was full, but my dessert stomach is still emty! he said this like it was the most obvious thing in the world!

when i was little, i used to think i was the loudest chewer ever. i thought this because when you chew somthing it's in your head, and close to your ears and it seems loud, but i didn't know that nobody else heard it like that. i used to get embarrassed when i ate somthing crunchy because i thought i was annoying people, so i would try to chew really quietly. i was jelous of my sister, because she could chew quietly, and i wanted to learn how to do that.
i used to think my sister was cold blooded, because she used to say she took cold showers.

One time I was in gym class (I was in 1st grade) running around the school. Then I got a nose bleed. I suddenly stopped. I thought that a mini-beehive had grown in my nose and all the bees were gathering "nectar" in the inside of my nose, because that's what it felt like to me. Then I thought you could only get a nose bleed if you hit your nose on something because everyone was asking me if I hit my nose on something. I also used to believe I was a vampire, and when any of my friends were bleeding like on their arm or something I would suck on the wound. Then I thought blood was made of metal because that's what it tasted like.
