once when i was at my uncle's funeral (he'd died very suddenly) and the minister opened up the sermon with, "we can't even really believe he's dead..." my brother got really freaked out and turned to my parents, worriedly asking, "wait...we don't know he's dead??" he thought we might be burying him alive!!!
i never under-stood what'put to sleep' ment. i thought they'd give the animal a tray of warm milk, and sing lullabyes until my friend found out that i didn't know in 4th grade, and told me.
i wish she hadn't, i was depresed for a few days after

My grandpa died when I was very young, and I went with my mom and grandma to the funeral parlor. The funeral director asked my grandma if she wanted baby’s breath for the coffin. I thought this was some type of air supply that was being built into the coffin that would allow him to take very small breaths and part of me feared that we were burying him alive.
I used to believe there was a special heaven or hell for every single type of animal. But some only had a hell, like a pit bull, and others only had a heaven, like a dachshund (wiener dog for you people who don't know).
i used to belive that when someone in your family dies, that they can watch your from heaven
(or else were) and they can see everything you do. liek showers, and baths, and other things. i still wonder about it now and im 13.
i also used to belive that when u die god would make you watch a video tape of your life from birth to when u died, and he wouls lecture you about things u did wrong.

When I was a child I used to be scared to say the part of the night time prayer, "Now I lay me down to sleep", that went "If I should die before I awake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." I used to believe that was sort of telling God I didnt mind dying in my sleep. So I would never, ever say it.

When I was around 12, one of the horses I took care of died. I was really really upset, and then one of the barn moms took me aside and told me that horses were just unicorns that had forgotten that they had horns, and that the horse hadn't died, he'd just remembered what he was and left this world because there wasn't room for magic in it.
Part of me still believes it...

When my grade 2 teacher, Mrs. McDonald retired, I was convinced that it meant she was old and would die soon. I spent the rest of the summer looking for her name in the obituaries everyday.

When I was younger my brother convinced me that if I didn't hold my breath when we drove past a cemetery then I would breathe in the spirits from the cemetery and they would kill me. And it scared me to death when I couldn't hold my breath all the way. I thought I was going to die.

When I was 10 my Mother's dog passed away. My Mom told me that she had just died at home in her sleep and that my Dad and Grampy brought her to the vet to be buried. (She didnt want to tell me that they had to make the hard decision to put her to sleep--they didnt want me blaming them for her death). When I was 20 years old my Mom was talking to my friend about her old dog and made the statement, "When we had Tammy put to sleep" I was mortified! I wouldnt have been upset that she was put to sleep because death was death to me, but the fact that for 10 years I believed she died underneith the dining room table and had to be brought to the doctors" My Mom had no idea I still believed that years later.

When I was younger, I believed all the action sequences in films were very real. All the people that got shot, I figured them to be criminals or dissidents forced into acting, stomach wounds were aimed for unlethality and the head wounds for people who were to be executed anyhow.
Movies with a lot of death were quite puzzling to me, wondering how they managed to get all those prisoners. Later, someone told me that people had bags of ketchup under their clothes and the guns were firing pellets.
I used to believe that a person could die within a day if they swallowed ink from a pen. One day, I thought I was a goner when, while biting the end of an ink pen stick, the ink spilled into my mouth and covered my tongue, teeth and gums. I ran into the kitchen screaming, "HELP ME, MOMMY!! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!" while crying the biggest tears ever. She was shocked at first because everything in my mouth was blue, but she quickly acted and started rinsing my mouth. Later that day, I noticed her talking to my father and they both were laughing. It wasn't until years later that I learned they had been laughing about me and the ink.

when i was about 3 years old my mother took me with her to the funeral of one of her best friends who was killed in a car wreck. well my mom was holding me in her arms with me on her hip and we were looking at her friend in the casket. I didn't know that she was a dead woman and i asked my mom "mommy.... is that a doll?" I thought it was a life size barbie doll or something. haha. i still remember it to this day

Up until I was about seven or eight years old, if one of the family pets died, my parents would never tell me what happened, but would say that the animal went to live on a farm. So, I believed that there were farms that cats and dogs would go to live along with the other farm animals.
I used to believe that when an actor died on-screen it was real. And I always used to be astonished when I saw the same actor in another movie, and went about asking people very seriously as to how did they survive!
