I used to believe that when you drove by a grave yard you had to hold your breath, cross your fingers, and close your eyes so the dead people couldn't take you with them. This was a constant ritual between my best friend and I.

I used to believe…

When I was three or four, I secretly pulled my cat's tail to get it to meow onto a tape recorder. When the cat died several months later, I was convinced that it was because I had pulled his tail. I still felt guilty thinking about that poor cat, even years after learning about the digestive problem that actually killed him (and despite understanding that death by tail-pulling is not a possibility!) I think I finally stopped feeling this way at around 15 or 16.

Up until I was 5 I thought that every person on the planet would die on the same day. All, that is, except for one very tired old man who was left to the job of burying the bodies. When he finished he would plop down into the last grave and that would be it!

I was in a timezone waiting to play a 'laser skirmish' game with my little sister. When she had the gun in her hand, she started crying and so she stayed outside with my dad. After about fifteen minutes the game finished and I came out and it showed the scores on a little TV screen. When she realised I had won, my little sister was overjoyed. I later found out that she thought the guns were real and you would die if you were shot.

I used to believe…

When I was about 4 or 5, I had seen some pictures in a family album of my great uncle who had passed away before I was born. I asked my mother what happened to him and she told me that he had died, and he had been buried. Later on I was exploring in our back yard and I came across a short pole stuck in the ground, which I assumed was my uncle Harry's grave.

When I was very young, I had a very odd belief about action scenes in movies and TV shows. I don't know where I got the idea, but I thought when every you saw about to die and they were not the star - stunt men tossed off a roof, that sort of thing - that the person had really died. I thought they were prisners on death row whose death was part of a movie as some sort of bizzare special treat.

That god would fix people who were dead. I had no idea how long it took but I found out it wasnt true about 2 or 3 years after my grandpa's death after I asked when god was going to be done fixing him.

I saw in a magazines that was lying around the house, and it was talking about how any of us could die at anytime. And one of the lines read something like "You could die today at 1 o'clock" or something like that. But cause I was so young I took it literally. I actually believed that I was going to die at 1 o'clock that day.

I ran around all my family and friends bawling in my eyes out saying my "goodbyes" to everyone. People thought that there was something seriously wrong with my head. I'm 18 now and I still get teasted by my family about it.

I told my cousin's kid (5 years old) that if he made one of his eyes look into his other eye in the bathroom mirror that that night when he fell asleep he would die and go straight to hell and nothing could stop it. He tried it and got REALLY scared. He was up almost 2 days! ( I was about 26 when i did this but my cousin used to torture me when I was little so were even now)
