When I was about 3, our chihuahua, Mickey, died of old age. My father didn't quite know how to explain death to me, so he told me Mickey died because he barked too much. Then for years my dad wondered why I would tell barking dogs to shut up or they were going to die! When he asked me about it one day, I told him that's what he told me, and he about fell off his chair laughing. I was mad- Dad had LIED to me! And worse, I'd believed it until I was 12!

My sister had gotten one of those cheap goldfish that you can win at school fairs. After a week or so it died and my mother did not want to upset my sister so she told her that it had "gone to Toledo". My mom thought she was so clever thinking she had convinced my sister that the fish had just moved away. About a year later, a family friend had died and my sister asked my mother, "Do dead people go to Toledo too?" Apparently, my mother wasn't that slick afterall.

My niece had not been lucky when it came to pets - they all kept dying. So,when her parakeet passed away my sister-in-law didn't want to have to tell my niece that, yet another, pet had died. So, she went out and bought a new parakeet of a different color and told my 5 year old niece, when she noticed it wasn't the same bird, that she had taken the bird to "get it's hair done" and that's why it was a different color. My niece thought this was hilarious and kept telling everyone how her bird had it's hair done.

When I was young, we had a dog named Charlie. Charlie was old and my mom told me we were sending him to "the farm" to play with other dogs. I believed this until I was about 18! I guess it just sounded really nice.

When we were young my mom told us that if we ever hit our parents, that when we died we would be buried with one hand sticking out the grave, and that a man would come past and whip the hand everyday.
It terrified us for years, until we realised that we would be dead, so like, who cares ?!?

I was a twin and during pregnancy my twin died (complications). Well my parents never explained to me what happened just that it died. So I asked my brother who told me that the reason my twin died was because I was eating all the food and it starved to death. Being a very chubby kid I believed him. Only when I was old enough to know better was when I finally found out that it wasn’t true.

My grandad died when I was quite young and my parents told me that he "passed away". A few weeks later my dad was doing some DIY around the house and he hurt his hand quite badly with a hammer. I could see that my Dad was in pain and my mum asked him if he thought he was going to pass out. I was horrified and burst into tears, I said "I don't want you to die Daddy". My Mum quickly explained that she only meant that Daddy might faint!

When I was a kid, my mother told me to hold my breath whenever we passed a graveyard. This was every day as there was a graveyard between home and school. The reasoning I was told at the time was that if you held your breath the whole time as you passed, you could make a wish and the dead would grant it. Later, I'd asked her about it (realizing after all that time that it was kind of weird) and she said it was so the dead wouldn't like... get you, or something.

My belief was that heaven was on top of big white fluffy clouds, that men and women would be literally sat on these clouds dressed in ancient Greek style robes playing Connect Four. The first time I flew, I remember watching intently believing that we were going to see heaven, as we rose in the clouds, a little child screamed 'Polar Bear' waking my at times dippy mother who yelled look Becks a Polar Bear! At however many feet I intuitively realised that we couldn't see a Polar Bear on Earth but I was slightly bemused as to what has happed to Heaven.

When I was about three-years-old, my parents had a friend named Kevin. My dad also had two pet hermit crabs. One day, I looked into the tank and they were gone, so I asked my mom what happened to them; she told me they had gone to heaven, but I misunderstood what she had said, and began telling everyone that my dad's hermit crabs went to Kevin's.

wen i was little, i used to think that after u died on earth u went to heaven, then after u died in heaven there was nowhere left for you to go, so god sent all the dead people down to earth again to be garden gnomes forever and ever!

I Used To Believe that you died when an angel came down for your soul and sucked it while u were asleep. Then one night at my friends sleepover, i was about 7 years old, i felt a sucking on my face, i got well scared but it was a girl who sed she luvd me!
