When I was 4 I used to believe that when a man or a woman died he or she would fly to Heaven. When my grandfather died, my parents didn't want to let me see him dead and I spent much time by the window in order to see him flying to the sky

I used to believe that we could write letters to people who had died. My mother's mother passed away when I was 3, and I'd never met my father's mother. My mother's stepmother sent me clothes for every holiday, and she had me write thank you notes to grandma. Well, I thought that the clothes had been sent from heaven, and the notes were going to one of the grandmas there. I didn't know for the longest time that it was all from the "grandma" who was alive in NYC. It made me really believe in the mail system! and that there must be some sort of transportation back and forth...

I used to believe that when people died, they came back to life as dolls. My grandmother died when I was 9 and when I was 11, my dad gave me these porcelian dolls she had owned. I put 2 in my room and could not sleep so I put them back in the box and me dad put them in the attic.

One day when I was 4 years old I asked my mother how her mother had died. Rather than try to explain what heart disease was, she told me that my Grandma had a really bad heart that just wouldn't keep working.

Years later, we had a house full of people and I began explaining to a large group that my grandmother was soooo mean, it killed her!

My mother was really upset with me, until she realized that she was the one who had told me about Grandma's "bad heart." She then changed her wording to "sick heart"

I used to believe…

My parents have a field behind their house and their dog would dig up the field mice and eat them. My children were spending the day with grandma and playing with the dog in the field. To their horror they watched the dog dig up a nest of mice that was full of babies, the dog was already full so he left them alone. The boys brought the baby mice to grandma to save them from the dog. Well grandma would not have the mice in the house so she told the boys to put them back in the hole and cover it with a bucket to keep the dog out. When I arrived to pick up my children they rushed to tell me about their pet mice and dragged me to the field. There they lifted a large bucket and started to dig up little dead mice. I asked them why they were playing with dead mice and I was told that they were just sleeping. You see, grandms said that mice lived undergound so they buried to keep them safe from the dog. They were shocked and heart broken when I told them that the mice had died

When i was about 5 our neighbor's goldfish died and she was unhappy.

The same day my parents took me with them shopping and i asked them to leave me in the petshop "as always i like watching animals - so they didn't ask why".

I can remeber it took me ages to steal a fish and i quickly put it in my pocket.

Later that day i went to our neighbor and gave her the fish i had thinking when its put in water it'll be oky again.

When I was five I thought that if I touched a toadstool and licked my finger I would die. One day I decided I wanted to die so I did just this. I found a toadstool in the garden, touched it and licked my finger. Then I went to bed. My sister asked why I had gone to bed and I told her I was going to die.

When I was about 5 years old one of those grocery store tabloids had a tv show. It was so close to how regular news was that in my little mind I thought everything they said was fact. Everything from bat babies to talking dogs. One night they said that there was a giant bomb somewhere in a cave in Africa that was set to go off in the year 2000. Needless to say I believed it (probably even more so since the had PICTURES...which looked like a giant clock). I cried and repented for weeks. I even planned out my life expecting to die at 14, since that's how old I would be.

I think my belief started to fade a bit when I was about 11, but after the ball dropped I still pinched myself to make sure I was still there.

My friend was told that if a hampster dies it could be brought back to life by warming it up. When she found her hampster lying very still one morning she belived it dead although the hampster was just sleeping. Not having a microwave she quickly rushed to her oven in a desperate attempt to resusatate her beloved pet. unfortunatly to left the hampster in a little to long and it caught fire! what was worse, she believed the flames meant her hampster was going to hell!

I used to believe…

When I was very young (I don't even remember what age) I was told by my mother that when you died, your soul left your body and went to heaven. Somehow I got the idea that souls looked exactly like candy canes, and floated out of your mouth once you were put into your coffin.

I used to believe…

When I was about 6 yrs old they sent the first men into space. At around the same time I saw a funeral procession go past & asked my mum about it. "They have died & gone to heaven" she told me. For ages I thought that people went up in spaceships when they died.

I used to believe…

When I was about 3 I used to think that all films were real and events in a film were actually happening in real life as I watched them. Apparently I would cry for hours when someone died, and my parents would never know why - until I told them a year or so later.

I remember going to a good deal of funerals when I was little, and knew clear and well that the people in these 'big shiny boxes with pretty blankets'- were not going to get up and make people stop crying, no one in my family explained 'death' to me, so I basically had to teach myself.

Cruel as it sounds I never cared about the body that was in the boxes I always wonder what came out of them, you see I had my own little concept of 'soul and spirit' but since I was a child I never knew what each was (in a specific sense), but I did know there was something, and that the body wasn't important at that time.

When I was 12 my brother died and I never cried at his funeral, I still had/have that belief that it wasn't him in the coffin he was/is somewhere else- a good place. ^_^

i miss him a lot

I used to think that when you were dead, they could give you a pill to make you alive again. My brother and I used to play "hospital", and if one of us "died", the other would administer an "alive pill".

This was before I saw The Princess Bride, so you can imagine how hard I was giggling at the Miracle Max scene!

I have no idea how I came up with this, but as a for and five year old, I thought that when you died, your eyes didn't close all the way. I mean, they were 90% closed, but they were still a tiny bit open. I also remember thinking that death was less total than fainting, during which your wyes close all the way.

i used to believe that if i strung beads to make a necklace, some will enter my mouth by accident and kill me. i stopped making bead necklaces since then >.<

I used to believe…

After somebody died, my sister kept hearing talk about "the body"; The body being taken here, the body being laid out there, the body being taken to the church, the body being buried there, etc. After many days, she quietly asked, "Mommie, but what about the head?"
