I used to believe…
Whenever my mother said handbag, I always thought that she was saying hambag and that she kept ham in there so one day after school I said I was hungry and she said she didn't have any food with her. I then said, "then why did you bring your hambag?" and that's when I found out that it was actually called a handbag.

When I was younger, my mother and I got some fish and chips. I then saw a sign on the wall that said there might be some bones in the fish. My mother told me that it was extremely unlikely and they have to put that up so they don't get sued, but ever since then I hardly ever ate fish and when I did, I cut it up in to tiny pieces and ate it a small amount at a time because I was so scared of choking on a bone. It's hard to enjoy a meal, though, when you can barely taste it because the pieces are so small.

I used to believe pretzels were salted wood.
I always thought that carbonated beverages like Pepsi, Coke, Sprite and suchlike were called fountain drinks because they often "fountained" when you opened the can or bottle. It wasn't until I was 20 and had to maintain a drink fountain as part of my job that I realized the machine that dispensed the drinks was called a fountain. That's where the name comes from, but I still like my idea better.

I used to think Dr. Pepper flavor soda was actually what a Doctor named Pepper tasted like when you ground him up and stuck him in a soda can, and I didn't understand why anyone would want to taste that.

Milk made your bones stronger by coating them and adding another layer of bone on top, so if I drank too much milk my bones would get too thick and clunk together and I'd be frozen.
