When I was about 3 or 4, I believed that bugs came from watermelons. My mom had gotten a watermelon for the 4th of July. For over a week, I tried to get her to open it, and when she finally did, I ran across the room, started dancing around in fear, and started shouting, "BUUUUUUUGS!!!!!!!!!!!"
I grew up in Canada so everything had english and french labels. "Best Before/Meilleur Avant" was printed on milk cartons next to the best before date. I always thought that Meilleur Avant was some kind of new and superiour milk and that the milk that we drank used to be the best until Meilleur Avant was produced. I always looked for it when when we went shopping but never found the new improved milk.

When I was about 5 and was learning how to read, I realized that some of my crayons had the names of foods. So I tried to eat the Macaroni & Cheese crayon and it tasted terrible. But I still didn't learn my lesson. I found another crayon and the color was Purple Pizazz, but I read it as "purple pizza" and took a huge bite out of it.

At my grandparents' house, my brother and I were fighting over the blueberry muffins. Both of us wanted the muffin with the most blueberries showing on the top. In order to stop our fighting, my grandfather told us that the muffins with very few blueberries on top actually had the most inside. So, we started fighting over those!

When my son was about 4 he LOVED hot dogs. He ate them for almost every meal and snack. Until one day my husbands younger cousin told him that if you eat hot dogs you poop worms. I took him about 7 years before he would eat another hot dog.

My grandfather was from Sweden, and some English words were hard for him to understand. So he called skim milk "skinny milk." When I was younger I thought that "skinny milk" would make you lose weight (I was a pudgy child) so I once drank nearly a half gallon and was disappointed the next day to find out that I had not lost any weight!

When I was in elementary school, all the kids at my lunch table would say that if you mixed cherries and milk together, that it was poison... the kind that killed you instantly. We used to mix the cherries in milk and dare each other to eat/ drink it... no one ever did that I can remember.

As a child my mother would tell me that if I swallowed gum, I would end up blowing bubbles out my rear if I farted and it would be really embarrasing.
I thought that men drank their coffee black and women drank their coffee with milk. When I saw my Army Major Uncle drink coffee with milk, I could not believe that he drank like a woman.
I read the story "Stone Soup" for the first time when I was five and didn't understand the trick that was played. I believed you could actually make soup out of just stone! I picked out a nice, potentially flavorful stone from our garden, asked for a bit of hot water and tried it for myself. It lacked the other ingredients, I thought.
