I once saw a cartoon where someone remarked that one of the characters looked pale and "could use some orange juice." Now I know she meant the character looked sickly, like they needed some vitamins. But back then I used to think that OJ put color in your face, so I stopped drinking it for a while, because I liked being pale.

When I was a child, until 6 years old, I used to believe that "polenta" was only for dogs. Polenta is a salted cream made by corn powder and water. I used to believe that because in my home, we used to cook it just for our dogs. But when I started going to school, There was "polenta" for lunch! And so, I founded out that people could eat "polenta" too...
I used to believe if we ate watermelon seed a watermelon would be born in the belly

When I was a child, I was confused by the President's Choice brand. I didn't know how they found out all of the president's favorite things and if they switched them every four years.

I used to beleive that corn was pigs teeth. And when it was corn on the cob, I thought it was the jaw.
I remember watching Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom as a kid, probably about 6 or 7 years old, and they said that the elephants were making people unhappy by destroying "mangroves". I had no idea what those were, so I thought they were saying "Meringue Groves", and therefore I thought that somehow meringue was harvested from African trees that elephants liked to eat.
I used to sincerely believe that buffalos had small wings... probably until I was about 15.
When I was little, my grandparents used to take me to a restaurant that had buffalo burgers, so I knew a Buffalo was kind of like a cow. I also liked to eat chicken wings but liked buffalo wings better. I was sorely disappointed to learn that a chicken and buffalo wing was the same and that Buffalo (Bison) did not, in fact, have little wings.

When I was little we would sometimes eat at Friendly's, a small restaurant like Applebee's except that Friendly's had all these great ice creams and desserts. I would always order the "Clown Sundae" for dessert... an upside-down ice cream cone in a bowl with the vanilla scoop as the head, the pointy cone like a hat, whipped cream around the back (like white clown hair) and M&Ms & chocolate syrup for a face.
I used to get really sad and cry because I didn't want to kill the clown by eating it. I would talk to it sadly as it slowly melted into a puddle, and once I was sure it was dead and wouldn't feel anything I would eat the candy bits, whipped cream and soggy cone out of the melted mess. It made me sooo sad. :(
I'm not 30 and to this day, the Clown Sundae (and pancakes with faces on them) makes me sad.

When I was two or three, I used to refuse to drink any liquids that had been sitting for too long because I thought the devil put poison in it when I was not looking. No one told me this about the devil. I just came to that conclusion with my morbid little mind.

The moon was made of cheese.
I used to believe it was illegal to drink and drive because when you drink from a cup your head is tilted back and you can't see the road. So I thought drinking ANYTHING was illegal.

When I was about 4 or 5 I stayed with my grandparents a lot during the summer. One afternoon we were eating watermelon and I swallowed a seed. I told my grandmother and she quickly covered my mouth with her hand and told me not to open my mouth while I was outside because all that sun would grow a watermelon in my belly. I kept my mouth shut for a while after that!
I used to be paranoid of finding a baby chick instead of a yolk in my eggs. I got this idea that all eggs had baby chickens inside them. also, we had recently been learning in class about certain animal behaviors such as overprotective mothers. thus, when my grandma showed me an ostrich egg I warned her not to eat it or the chicken's mommy would come get her.
I used to believe that the drinking and driving law referred to not drinking anything while driving. It actually doesn't. You can't drink liquor while driving.

We were talking at the dinner table about the difference between butter and margarine. I asked what margarine was made out of and my Dad replied, "wolf fat". I beleived this until i was an adult!

When I was little, I thought boysenberries were called poisonberries, and you would die if you ate them. When I got old enough to read, I still thought the same thing, except that the people who farmed boysenberries were evil and were trying to kill off the human race. I didn't figure out that they weren't until I was 9 and my grandma gave me a boysenberry yogurt cup for breakfast.
