As a kid my brother and I used to put salt on our watermelon (tasted really good for some reason). He told me that if I put too much on I would die so I'd always ask him if I had too much every time I ate it.

Once, when I was like, 4, I asked my mom why there were "tails" on pickles. (By "tails" I meant the piece of the vine you get sometimes on the end of pickles.) She told me that pickles were little animals that run around and when people catch them, they pull off their arms and legs and put them in jars. Then she said that if you listened closely, you could hear the scream for help. So, at the age of 4, I could often be seen holding pickles against my ears.

My grandma told me when I was about 2 or 3 that if I ate the holes on a donut I would be sick because our stomach cannot handle "nothing". I still eat de outside of the donut first.

when i was a little girl and i would by mistake swallow my gum. well i would cry to my mom, and she told me to lay down and close my eyes. wile i closed my eyes she would take the gum out of HER mouth and "pull" it out of my belly button and say "see mommy has her magic she fixed its all better" and i was so happy!!!

I thought that cotton candy was made from dryer lint.

As a young'un I used to believe that remolade was manufactured with bugs and human spit, as I had seen a nature program on television of indians chewing and spitting stuff out that looked just like remolade.

That made for some nice mental images as a kid and I saw it as perfectly natural to eat stuff other people had spit out or vomited ...

Again this is a friend of mine. At 6 she had been told that eggs were chicken seeds. She reasoned that she could grow a chicken tree/plant with an egg from the refrigerator. (She had a lot of plants in her room that she took good care of, even at 6). She potted the egg in dirt and put the pot near the window in her room, watering it everyday and spraying it to keep bugs away. She learned the truth when her mother asked her what kind of plant was in the pot of dirt by the window (noticing nothing was growing there even after 3 months of watering/sunshine). Her mother got the biggest laugh when her daughter said she was growing a chicken tree.

I used to believe that the red thing in the middle of a Greek olive was the pit.

Until I was about 8 or 9, I thought that rice was just chopped up spaghetti. I always wondered why sometimes my mom chopped it up and sometimes she didn't.

I used to believe that drinking Nestle's Quick would somehow trigger a response in my body that made me chug it really fast. The first time I drank it, I proclaimed, "Hey! This is just chocolate milk!" and was sorely disappointed.

My dad told me devon was made out of horse meat. I never have been able to bring myself to eat the stuff since...

When I was about 5 and started chewing gum, and sometime I accidentally swallowed it, I used to believe there were 2 rods inside my stomach to wind up the swallowed gum: one for the pink gum and another for the white gum (there wasn't all sorts of gum colours back them. The gum would be rolled up around the rods as cord. It's terribly stupid, I know. I was 5, see.

When I was young and my mom would be cooking a dinner consisting of pork chops I would ask what's for dinner and of course she'd say pork chops. But one time before she took them out of the package i read the label, it said Pork Loin Chops. I misconstrued the middle word to be Lion (like the beast in africa). I thought hmmm i guess mom wont tell me this meat is from a lion because me and my brothers (younger than i) would never eat such a thing. I thought this for a really long time and whenever mom would say we're having pork chops I'd kinda wink like i knew the inside secret that we couldn't let the younger ones know about.

When I was little, my mom smoked. She, not having an ash tray, used a Snapple bottle filled with water. She never drank anything but Coke, so I thought Snapple bottles were made just for this purpose.

Fast forward a few years... My mom's friend drank a Snapple in front of me one day, I blurted out (in public), "Mommy, she's drinking CIGARETTE JUICE!"

I used to think that when you went to a party and were supposed to bring a "dish to pass" you were not allowed to enter unless you had a dish. I thought that it was quite silly, but I never questioned it. It wasnt until I was much older that I realized that all it meant was you were supposed to bring food to share.
