I used to believe…

When my siblings and i were young and my mother made us breakfast, she always took the burnt toast, since none of us would eat it. I believed that she actually liked burnt toast until I was about ten-ish and burnt my own toast. When I buttered it and gave it to her, thinking I was sooo sweet, she was quite offended and I realized how wrong I was.

Once when I was younger, there was an episode of "Growing Pains" where Mike brought his girlfriend over for dinner and they were eating sausages. She said she couldn't eat the sausage because there were pig veins in them. I just got this terrible picture of blue veins in my hotdog...
To this day, I can't eat sausages.

when i was little, my mom told me that if i drank pickle juice, my face would get stuck in that sour position. because of that, she said i wouldn't be able to eat, drink, or breathe. needless to say, i was scared to death of anything sour until i was around 12 or 13.

I used to believe that watermelon seeds can grow from my body. When my father told me to be careful not to swallow any, I accidently did sometimes. I was so worry that I would die if a plant came out of my head. I cried until grandma told me the truth.

I used to believe that whenever you ate hot spicy food and your mouth burned it was because your taste buds were being killed! You're eyes watered automatically because your brain was sad about the death of so many at once; and they'd never grow back.

If you ate enough spicy or hot food you'd kill all the ones in your mouth and never be able to taste anything; when I grew up, everything would be bland! I won't even tell you when I learned the lie of this... but I still moderate how much tabasco sauce and chili peppers I consume. Paybacks are hell, mister!

As a self-respecting boy, I refused to order grilled cheese sandwiches, thinking them to be called "girled cheese sandwiches." Hence I always asked the waitress for a "boyed cheese sandwich."

My grandmother always told me when I was younger that if I drank milk when I ate fish, it would kill me. The first time I attempted to do so was with a tuna fish sandwich and I was very fearful of drinking the milk.

I saw my mom putting thin spikes of something into a pot on the oven , and when I asked she explained the process of making spaghetti. I thought about a large circular thing that could hold water, and connected it to ... yes , the toilet. Later , she found me fishing strands of soggy noodles out of the toilet , proudly saying that I had "boiled" them by flushing it and taking out the pieces that remained.

The color , texture , and scent of canned peas were awful to me and I believed that eating them too many times would turn you into a poisonous ,sad fish . I was miserable because my mom always made me eat them and I thought I was slowly changing , but the only thing saving me was the antidote which were fresh corn and carrots.

My father was a hunter and used to hunt deer. When he would come home with some and we would have it for dinner he would always tell me it was Venison (so I wouldn't know what it was). I used to eat it and say, "Yummy Daddy, this tastes just like meat"!

I used to believe…

Up until I was about 8 or 9, for some reason I didn't like to spit out my gum, I had this thing for swallowing it. One day while I was sitting at the doctor's office with my mom, I started to figure out what happens with the gum when I swallowed it. Then I had this mental picture of my throat...there was a floor-like board that would cut off my throat from the rest of my body and it almost looked like a dark, poorly-lit room. I thought that whenever I swallowed my gum, it would land on that floor, and just accumulate. I pictured multi-colored, chewed bubblegum just piling up, and I stopped swallowing my gum after that because I thought that if I didn't stop, it would just build up until I couldn't swallow anything anymore, and then eventually, I would have chewed bubblegum coming out of my mouth. I guess I figured that because food at some point dissolves in your mouth, food passes but since gum could potentially be chewed forever, it would never dissolve and would just sit there until there was no more room. Needless to say, it was a very productive doctor's visit.
