When we were small, my Dad, who loved to use pepper on his food, would tell us that it grew hair on your chest. He had plenty, so there was good reason to believe him. Sometimes to torment us, he would shake a little on our food. We would cry, try to scrape it off and not eat it. To this day, I rarely use pepper on any food...nor does my sister!!!

I accidentally swallowed a plum pit when I was five and worried for days waiting for the plum tree to start growing out of my stomach.

I used to believe there were little people in your stomach stacking the food up: eggs in this pile, bacon in that pile etc.

When I was 6, my older sister told my younger brother that the rabbit droppings that we found in our back yard were Cocoa-Puffs. He learned the truth the hard way.

My mother, rest her soul, would tell me when I was young to be sure to eat the bread crust, because that's where the vitamins were. It took me several years before I figured that one out. My wife and children get a kick out of that story. Maybe I'll try that one on my four year old grand-daughters, it might work!

we were eating at a Chinese Buffet once & our daughter went to the dessert part of it & chose jello. She took a bite & stated "Chinese Jello tastes just like American Jello!!!"

Bad habit - swallowing olive pits, orange seeds, etc. We were told if we swallowed these, a tree would grow in our stomachs. If we bit and swallowed our nails, a finger would grow in our stomachs. Anything we ate, that we weren't supposed to eat, would result in the growth of the original plant/tree it came from.

When I was about 5 or 6 I asked my Grandmother where pork chops came from. She told me from a pork chop bush and that if I planted a pork chop bone it would grow into a pork chop bush of my own. I tried it and when nothing happened she said I hadn't watered it enough. I was so disappointed.

I grew up in a non-acoholic family. So, the day my mom decided to rinse my hair with beer after washing it, I cried terribly while she had me leaning over the sink. (Crying upside down hurts the sinuses!) She got so perplexed with me for crying until I told her that I didn't want to get drunk. I thought for sure that her rinising my hair with beer would make me that way.

A few years ago my cousin (now 9 years old) used to call eggs "eggimos". My grandma to this day still calls eggs "eggimos" in front of my cousin, and he gets all embarassed and yells "I don't call eggs that anymore Grannie!" She'd just laugh. I called them that once too, when I was asking him what he wanted for breakfast. "Do you want eggimos, or pancakes?" "Eggimos? What are you nuts!?!? There EGGS!" He exclaimed. I still laugh at that.
