You know those dark spots that appear on toast when it's toasted more in some places than others? I used to think that those spots were poisonous and if I ate them, I would get really sick and die.

On the Starbucks disposable coffee cups, there's a little thing printed near the bottom that says, "Careful, the beverage you're about to enjoy is extremely hot." Well, I thought that the people that worked at Starbucks would individually gauge the heat of each drink, and then write that there if the drink was hot! I always thought, "Oh, how thoughtful of them!"
when i was eight years old or so, my family and i were at a resturant trying to decide what to eat when i asked my mom "why do they call it girl cheese (grilled cheese) instead of boy cheese?". i never got a response
I used to believe that mayonaise was for women and mustard was for men. That's how everyone in my family preferred their sandwiches to be made. I was afraid to try mustard for fear of getting in trouble for crossing over!

I used to think that vanilla was the absence of chocolate, not its own flavor.

When I was 3 my older brother used to put is fork in to his eggs and say they were dead little chicks and that we were eating dead little baby chickens. Every time I put my fork into my scrambled eggs he would make a chicken sound. I thought my mom would kill them & make scrambled eggs. I wouldn't eat eggs till I was 14. I still wont eat them scrambled. I am 30!!!
I used to believe that if I ate the seeds from fruits and vegetables, they would then sprout and grow inside me. I want to thank my brothers for that phobia :)

As teenagers, back in the 1950s, we were told that taking aspirin with Coke would make us drunk. An awful lot of kids believed that, but (as an adult) I used to take aspirin with Coke all the time...with NO effects!
When I was little, we visited a neighbor and I was checking out the Sweet & Low packets on the table. Mom told me not to touch those. Why? "Because they cause cancer."
I assumed this was the actual purpose of Sweet & Low, like it was some kind of suicide pill. Needless to say, I thought the neighbors were pretty scary for keeping cancer poison attractively displayed right on the table.
my grandmother told me how eating watermelon seeds would cause a vine to grow out your ears (which i naturally believed and avoided seeds with all my might). well, my brother and i took horseback riding lessons at a nearby stable and one day he brought along pomegranites to feed them after our ride. unsure what a pomegranite was but trusting my older brother, i began feeding it to my horse. suddenly i noticed it was filled with seeds and i watched horrified as the horse gobbled down the seed filled fruit. i was sure i'd harmed the horse causing a vine to grow out it's ears!! my brother doubled over laughing! i was relieved the following week to see the horse was unharmed and anxious for another taste.
When I was little my father told me that tapioca pudding had fish eyes in it. I believed him since the jelly substance resembled that of fish eyes. Today, I still can't eat tapioca pudding.
My Mom wouldn't let me have Nerds candy when I was a kid because it would get stuck in the carpet. I didn't know this though and thought anything my parents wouldn't let me do was sinful or wrong in some way. For the longest time I believed Nerds were immoral to eat and I always wondered what kind of bad parents my friends must have if they ate them.
I used to believe that if you ate the fat on your steak (or other meats), then that is how people became overweight. I always pictured the fat that i cut off just sticking to my stomach if i ate it.
My parents used to tell me that eating carrots would make my eyes brighter. For years i munched on carrots waiting for my brown eyes to turn green or blue. Finally i confronted my mom who had always wondered why telling me that would make me eat the carrots. She didnt realize I was confused for all these years, she meant to say the carrots would make my vision better.
When I was small my mum used to give me porridge for breakfast. I wan't that keen on it and it always took a long time to finish, particularly because whenever I took a spoonful, the remaining amount filled the space where I had just taken some from. My brother used to tell me that there was a little man underneath the table who was filling it up again and I used to believe him!
We ate a lot of rice. I used to drown my rice in Soy Sauce. My brother told me it would make me grow whiskers and he'd point out the whiskers as we ate dinner. I'd run to check to see if I really had whiskers. To this day I still can't stand to add soy sauce to my rice.
