One time while grocery shopping with my mom and my sister, my mom lost her keys down a grate. Not only did my older sister convince me that we would now have to live in the grocery store, but she also managed to convince me that if we ate watermelon from the store and accidentally swallow a seed, a watermelon would grow in our stomachs and kill us. Still to this day, I refuse to eat a seeded watermelon, and I won't even eat the thin white seeds either.

My daughter believes that her head will really turn in to a fruit if she eats a fruit gusher. Everytime the commercial comes on she tells me she never wants to eat those things.

I used to believe that if you ate beans, green tendrils with leaves would grow out your ears--actually my brother told me this.
When I was little, me and two boys always ate watermelons. I ignored everyone that said that the seeds would grow in my stomach if I swallowed the seeds. I swallowed the seeds and when I went home that night, i felt something somewhat hard up my nose. I pulled it out and found that it was a watermelon seed. I ran crying to my mom until she finally convinced me that the seeds had not already started to grow in my nose...
When I was a young girl my dad would tell me to drink my milk, that it would make my boobs grow. But, in the same breath, he would tell my brother to drink milk, that it would put hair on his chest. Needless to say, there was not a lot of milk drinking going on. I wanted boobies, but not hairy ones, as I'm sure my brother wanted hair on his chest, not boobies.
I am often gleefully reminded by my parents of the time we were eating pancakes with aunt Jemima syrup, and I burst into tears after staring at the syrup bottle for about 10 minutes. I thought she was really going to talk to me, like she did on t.v.!
my grandmother told me that eating bananas late at night would cause nightmares. I always would grab a banana for a late night snack, just lately I discovered that she didn't like them so she told me this so that I wouldn't eat them either. To think I've gone 20 some odd years avoiding bananas late at night.

My brother believed that bacon(his favorite food) was from horses.
i used to think that "beef" and "meat" were two different things because my mother would always say "what a nice piece of beef" when we were out and the cut was something special or different than we ate at home. I figured we ate "meat" at home and it was a different part of the animal than the better quality "beef" we ate elsewhere.
My Dad had always told my sister and I to drink our milk because it will put hair on our chests!! Is it any wonder
that I am 35 and don't like milk?!
When we were young, we all wanted to have blue eyes like my dad. We asked him how we could get blue eyes, and he said that we should eat carrots. So we'd eat tons and tons of carrots, but our eyes remained brown.
My dad was from the country. So when we went back on some trips I thought all the cows were great. He would tell me that the brown cows gave chocolate milk! I asked what about the brown & white cows. A: The side with the most brown was the chocolate milk side. I believed this for years.

UP UNTIL I WAS 5 OR 6 I DID NOT KNOW WHAT COTTON CANDY WAS-UNTIL MY GRANDPARENTS TOOK ME AND MY SISTER TO THE STATE FAIR AND I WOULD NOT EAT IT BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS HAIR. I LITERALLY WANT TO VOMIT ON THE THOUGHT OF HAIR IN MY FOOD OR DRINK. ON THEIR URGING THAT IT WAS CANDY I TRIED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO GET ME TO TRY IT. I LOVE IT. I AM NOW 34.
I used to think that inside a cadbury egg was a real egg, except it had chocolate instead of a shell. I was always afraid to eat one, because my mom had always said not to eat anything with raw egg in it.
I grew up in Ohio and my Dad is a big nature person. We use to take drives into the country to see the sites. One day we were on a drive and I was ooing and ahhing over the cute cows. My Dad asks, "you know what comes from a cow don't you?" I said "yeah dad, milk." He then said "do you know that only that brown cows make chocolate milk?" I was probably 10 before I figured out he was joking. I have now passed this on to my kids...ahh traditions!!
My friend's mom was a doctor, and when I was little, he told me not to drink soda, specifically cola right after pouring it into a glass. He said the bubbles that form once you pour it into a glass cause cancer, and you need to let the soda rest before you drink it. This way, the bubbles/foam all die down, and the soda is safe to drink.

When I was 8 , I thought that if you swallowed bubble-gum, it would make a bubble in your stomach and you would need to get operated in order to get it out. Now I am 10 and I'm not sure anymore since I've been on your site.
