I loved to eat paper in about 2nd or 3rd grade. Then a kid told me the acid in the paper would destroy my heart. I believed him and spent many nights crying and praying for God to fix my heart. I worried for many years because I had eaten a lot of paper

When I was about 6, my dad ate a lot of shredded wheat (you know, that big six inch block of it?). Anyway I thought he was eating hay, so I refused to try it. He said he ate it because it has a lot of fiber. So, for the longest time I thought fiber in food mean long stringy thread-like fibers. I could never figure out where they were in prunes though.
A boy in first grade told me that skim milk was actually skin milk and that it was made with skin. He said they changed the n to an m to make it skim so that people would still buy it and that alot of people didn't know it was actually skin milk. So I refused to drink it for awhile lol I even spit it into my great aunt's plant and so did my cousin because I told her it was really 'skin' milk lol
When I was little my Dad convinced me that if I swallowed a cherry seed, a tree would grow out of my ass. I remember always being extremely careful...but accidentally swallowing one one time. I ran to the basement and started crying and when my Mom followed me and asked what was wrong, I told her I didn't want to have a tree grow out of my bum and that I accidentally swallowed a pit and that I needed surgery because I didn't want to look stupid. I was like...5.
My grandparents lived on the coast and there was a small island on the horizon. My Poppa used to tell us it was covered in trees that grew lollies and the trunks were made out of chocolate. If we were really, really good, one day we'd take a trip out there. I absolutely believed that little tale for years! It makes me smile to think about it...
When I was four, my grandpa told me that soy sauce was made from bug juice when the bugs hit the car windsheild. I came to the conclusion that at night while we were sleeping, an evil man went around our neighborhood and scraped the bug juice off everyones windsheilds and put it in a jar to feed to people. To this day, I won't eat any food with soy sauce in it.
I used to believe that all men drank thier coffee black and all women used cream in their coffee. This is how my parents drank theirs and I just made the assumption it was universal. I was 19 and working as a waitress the first time I saw a male use cream in his coffee. I was as shocked as if I had witnessed any other "unnatural" act!

When I was younger, we would eat at Fisherman's Wharf. I had always believed that the Hush Puppies were actually a type of chewy fish. Boy was my face red....
When I was little, I ate an orange and accidentally swallowed the seed. I used to believe that if I drank water, that a tree would start growing out of my mouth.
When I was seven, we had what I remember as our first easter egg hunt. We died the eggs the night before and the next morning we did our hunt. After hunting for the eggs, I decided that I wanted to hatch my eggs for baby chicks! So I carefully hid my eggs in the basket under my desk for about a month before my mom noticed the smell and had to explain to me that there were no baby chicks in those eggs!
For the first decade or so of my life, I believed that mayo and mayonaise were different foods. I had heard of mayo but not in reference to what it actually is, so I pictured it as brown goop (as opposed to white-ish yellow goop).

I used to believe honey was made out of bee poop. I would read the ingredients to everything and avoid honey at all cost!
When I was 5 or 6 my brother told me that Raisenetts (chocolate covered raisens) were actually chocolate covered flys. Still to this day I can not eat them or any raisens.

I was told when I was little that eating too much salt on your food would "dry up your blood".
When I was 4 ish I would not eat spinach. My parents would successfully get me to eat a few pieces if they told me that I could not grow up big and strong like Pop-Eye. After hearing this I would flex my muscles and take a bite, grimace, swallow, maybe, and quite vocally refuse to eat any more. My parents would then repeat the procedure.
I used to believe stuffing came directly from the cooked bird, and was really chicken and turkey guts. I was never allowed in the kitchen before the stuffing of the bird, which is what led to this belief. I wouldn't eat it at Thankgsgiving and made everyone sick when I told them what I thought of it
I used to think that drinking coffee would make you taller. My dad's parents were both short, and pretty much all he drinks is coffee. So when I was four, I started making coffee for him and myself. It's not working...I'm 5'3" and done growing...
