when I was little my brother told me that corn was made out of whale flubber and of course I believed him because I looked up to him and i named my stuffed animale whale corn.
When I was a kid, I was very afraid of chicken pot pies, and wondered why anyone would ever eat any such thing. It was probably because I wasn't yet clearly hearing a distinction between "chicken pot" and "chicken pox". So I must have been thinking of them as "chicken pox pies".
When I was 5 or 6, my Grandpa used to tell me that if I ate the seeds of watermelons that I would grow watermelons out of my ears. Of course, that just made me eat more of the seeds until I realized that I just wasn't going to grow any no matter how many seeds I ate.
My elder sister has a bad habit of refusing to swallow her food when she was a toddler. my mom was frustrated for having to chase my sister around the house for a full hour to get her to eat so she told my sister that "if you don't swallow, the food is going to turn into worms" oh boy, she sure ate real fast after that.
Us chinese had this delicacy... we'd eat sea cucumber every lunar chinese new year and to my horror i grew up and read up on it and realised it was actually slugs...eeeeew~
In 3rd grade I heard a saying about if you eat an apple every day you will not get ill and check in to the doctors ever again. I hated apples and my brother loves them, but he is ALWAYS ill and seeing doctors. I pretty much figured out the saying is not true when my brother banged his head against a wall by accident and had to stay in hospital.
When my sister was younger my dad told her that if she ate bananas or anything else that was yellow she'd become a monkey (he frequently called her "my little monkburger"). She's 21 now and she still hates that colour.

when i was little, my mom told me if you ate to much salt, you'd wake up turned into a lamb.
Most people are farmilar with the belief that if they swallowed a watermelon seed, a watermelon would grow in their stomach. I took it a step further when I was little, thinking *whatever* I ate would grow inside of me. Apples made apple trees, lettuce made "lettuce trees" - the best argument was steak would make a cow.

I used to believe the pee of the cow was the milk. I didn't like milk.
I used to believe that sausages were the penises of pigs. So, I didn't like
sausages.
When I was a young warthog, I believed that when you baked apple pie the apples turned into little demons. When you ate the apples (or "little demons") you turned into a giant demon. I have never eaten apple pie again.
I used to believe the pickles were the fingers of martians. Because of that, I did not eat pickles.
i used to think that the eggs known as Sunny Side Up were called 'Dip Egg', because my mom always would slice up pieces of toast to dip in the egg. I remember going to Bob Evans one day with my family when I was about 8, and i tried to order dip egg. the waitress looked at me funny, and i couldnt figure out why.

My Grand father told me that if i swallowed chewing gum i would stick to the toilet
When I was younger I would eat sandwiches for lunch nearly every day. I would watch my dad cut them and I always wondered where the middle went. I thought that there should have been a little sliver in the middle where the cut was made.
Ever wondered where Fish Fingers (fish sticks) come from? Well, they catch the fish, chop their fingers off, and throw them back into the water. When my kids told me they have never seen a fish with fingers, I told them "of course not. They've all been caught". It's the same for chicken's too you know, and you really don't want to know where the nuggets come from!

I, along with many others, used to believe that if you ate pop rocks and downed it with Jolt Cola, you would explode. I still won't try it.
In 1954 when I was 4 years old we got our first TV. An advertisement for KIX breakfast cereal showed a boy and girl my own age eating the cereal and then flying off the floor and around the room while the noise of a jet plane was heard and the announcer said: "Eat KIX and be jet propelled". Soon afterward, the first time I ever ate KIX cereal was absolutely beyond a doubt the most horribly disappointed I have EVER been in my life, and that was 50 years ago!
