When I was a child, they began to make tuna fish in a can "dolphin safe" so every can of tuna had the words on it "dolphin safe." Therefore, I thought that dolphins had tuna in their bodies, that the fishermen would catch the dolphins, remove the tuna, and put the dolphins back in the ocean before they died.

When I was like 6, I attempted to make lemonade by mixing lemon juice with sugar. It tasted bad so I added more sugar. I refused to believe that you needed water.

I used to believe if I ate a watermelon seed that I would blow up real huge because it grew inside of me and that I'd explode.

We always celebrated Holidays with close friends and their large extended family. At the end of Christmas dinner one of the boys flipped mashed potatoes off a spoon, across the table. Everyone laughed! The next week, we were invited to dinner at the home of the local school principal. I flipped mashed potatoes across the table and no one thought it was funny! Go figure!

My mother never made mashed potatoes when I was a child. The first time I saw them at a neighbour's, I must have gotten a process wrong somewhere. since I asked my mother why she didn't add Spic and Span to her potatoes like the neighbour did!

When I was a wee lass my Auntie would often call Brazil Nuts - nigger toes. Now, I must explain...she was born in the late 1800's and my father was born in 1913 so maybe that explains the term, I really don't know. They were certainly NOT prejudiced people and were respectful of everyone. When I was very young, I had this terrible feeling that people with black skin had their toes removed and it upset me to no end. I suppose I was about 5/6 when it was explained to me where the expression came from and why. I can't imagine anyone using this expression today I am in my 52nd year, have never used the term and just can't imagine using it.

I never really liked red meat as a kid, and I remember the first time I tried lamb, it was covered in this red sauce and I thought it tasted really weird and didn't even look like "real" meat(because of the sauce), instead I had a very strong suspicion that it was infact human flesh. I ate it anyway.

We dont have head cheese (if that is how you write it?) in Britain, but I knew it was something Americans ate by watching TV. I imagined it as this skinned, hollowed out human skull with a big lump inside it that was a mix of human brain, human flesh, and some cheese. I could never understand why anyone would want to eat this, and thought Americans had really weird taste in food.

When he was like four, my younger cousin only drank iced tea with dinner and hated milk. To get him to drink his milk, my grandmother told him that if he drank anything but milk past 6 PM he would stay short forever because milk made you grow while you slept. He believed it for a LONG time and would holler at us when we drank iced tea or soda at dinner and tell us we'd never get big. Awww. ^_^
