When my dad was young his mum told him that if he ate turnip his skin would heal really quickly because he had a big cut on his knee.
He believed her.

When I was little (about 20 years ago), halloween wasn't a very big deal where I live in England, so I was very excited when i was invited to go collecting "candy" with a friend on the American army base nearby. Apparently I embarrassed her because I didn't know any of the american words, like jackolantern or candy. All night I was knocking on doors demanding "treacle treat" and then crying when I got neither treacle or candy (which i pictured as some sort of sugary sticks wrapped in american flags!), but normal sweets and chocolate.

Before I thought that when you ate the gushers your head would really turn into a fruit and then people will eat your head. I didn't figure out it wasn't true until I was 6!

When i was younger, i used to believe that Yams (the vegtable) were actually an insect like a grub or caterpilla. I refused to eat them as i thought they were a bug, i was around 10 when i fineally realised they were a vegetable after seeing them uncooked at the supermarket.

My cousin used to tell me not to swallow my gum cause i had a bone in the middle of my chest and the gum would pile on top of and if i kept swallowing it, it would eventually come out my mouth and i would have to have surgery to get it removed. How horrible hun?!

When I was little, my mother would serve asparagus. My father told me they were hummingbird tongues. Needless to say, I would not eat them. I was practically grown before I knew what they really were! I love asparagus now!

When I was in kindergarden, I was having an egg for lunch and a kid came to me and said not to eat the bottom of the egg, because it is poison!

When I drank cheerwine as a young child (6 or 7) I thought it was wine in a can that cheered you up. I decided to try the "white" cheer wine that mommy drank. I found it very very good, and drank 2 wine glasses full in less than 10 minutes. Well of course mommy didn't find this out until that night when I was throwing up 2 hours straight.

At my friend's house one day, we suddenly got an idea to go out and collect acorns. My friend put them in a bowl, along with some grass and water and began mashing it with a stick. And somehow eventually the water turned white. My friend told me it was milk, but even so i didn't have the heart to taste it. From then on I believed acorns, grass and water made milk (why this logic? because cows eat grass and they produce milk). I remember spending a day with a bowlfull of grass and water, but no acorns were at hand. I spent the afternoon mashing it and leaving it in the sun for awhile, till my sister came out and asked me what i was doing. 'Making milk,' I replied. 'But it's not working. I don't have any acorns.'

I used to believe that a man's Adam's apple was the result of years of swallowing chewing gum and it gets stuck in their throats! If I ever swallowed any gum I would feel my adams apple to see if it had grown!!

When I was a kid, my grandma gave me and my brother Smarties one time right before it was time to go back to school, and she said that if we ate one a day, it'd make us smart. I can't believe we actually believed her, lol.

I used to believe…

all of us know what tootsie pops are. Well you know how the wrappers of many diffrent pictures on them. For the longest time (atleast till I was 10) I thought that if you found a wrapper with the indian pointing his arrow at the star and sent it in you could get a free bag of tootsie pops. Well this led me to rejoice everytime this symbol appeared. Later, while disgusing it with some friends (around the age of 8) I came up with a plan to buy a bag and take all the "winning" wrappers and send them in and then continue the process over and over thus getting as many tootsie pops as we wanted which caused all of us to break out in cheer.

We never tested this plan (maybe cause we just never got to it or possibly cause we didnt know where to send the wrappers) but to this day I dont know if there ever really WAS contest like that though I've come to asume there wasn't none the less I still get a bit of joy regressing back to child for a split second thinking about it everytime I find the "winning" wrapper.
