When I was 4, I used to be a huge fan of the Nickelodeon show Rugrats. There's an episode were Angelica tells Chuckie that if he swallows a watermelon seed, it would grow inside him and he would blow up. This scared the crap out of me, so I stayed as far from watermelon as possible. Looking back I realize what a naive little girl I was!

In my room I have a heating vent in the floor of my bedroom. When I was little I always asked my mom if I could open it, but she'd say, "No, it's crusty in there." So I thought she meant there were old pieces of moldy bread crusts in the vent. I really hate bread crust, so I was scared of my vent.

When i was a kid, i used to think that only black people ate fried chicken. I thought this because my relatives would always want fried chicken when we had family get togethers. Then when i saw a crisco commerical with white people eating fried chicken i was so shocked.
1. shocked because they were enjoying and eating the fried chicken, and 2. because the fried chicken on tv never looked like the kind my mom makes, leading me to belive that white people had some kind of secret recipe to make the chicken super golden and crispy.

On a road trip, my parents and I stopped into a convinience store/bakery that was kind of dirty. We bought some snacks, but I walked by the shelves of bread and the crusts were very dark brown.
The bread we bought at the supermarket was never that dark, so I thought the reason that the crusts were so bad is that the baker dropped them on the floor repeatedly.
I used to think that a head of lettuce was called a head of salad because my mom used to ask me to make the salad for dinner and I thought lettuce was called salad because no one used the word lettuce. I thought this until I was about 11.
