i used to think 'grilled cheese sandwich', my favourite lunch, was actaully 'girl cheese sandwich' which meant it was only for girls
when I was young, I was told that Cornish Pasties were made so that you could get a whole meal into a small package that you could drop down a Cornish mineshaft. I finally realised it would break when it hit the bottom when I was nineteen.
My broher told me that people who pushed the wrong bubble (on drink lids from fast food resturants) were forced t eat bugers if anyone caught them. I believed him for the longest time and always pushed the right one after that.
While eating mince and taties, I'd sometimes come across a lump of meat where it had stuck together during cooking. I thought that if you swallowed these lumps without breaking them up, they would turn up in your scrotum as replacements!
I used to believe that if you swallowed your gum that you would crumble up and smell like a dead animal !!!!
I used to believe that if you eat your crust you will get curly hair unfourtently I have a curling iron !!
I used to believe that tea was only light brown on the top (where you added the milk) and as you drank it this bit sank to the bottom. This idea was only dispelled when I had a cup of tea in a see through mug and I was very shocked.

Mum used to eat Special K. The advert said 'for people who don't want to grow any more' I was 8 and thought that cos I eat it I wouldn't get any taller.
When I was a child my mother never allowed us to have coffee only tea. When I asked her why she said that it would give you spots and make you bad tempered! This was a rule until I got to the age of about 14. Then I developed spots and I became bad tempered. So I said to my mum well I'm both of which you said I would become without drinking coffee, so now I might as well start drinking coffee. Even to this day whenever I am visting my Mum and drinking a cup of coffee I remind her of this.
My brother and I were convinced that if we swallowed any seeds, they would sprout inside us and grow, and we'd die a horrible death with branches poking out of our mouths, ears, belly button, and (uugh!) eyes. We still don't eat tomatoes.
All my friends and I believed that if we swallowed bubble or chewing gum - it would wrap round our hearts and we would die - lovely thought!!!! We also had a teenage neighbour who had a hole in her heart and was told that it was because she had swallowed chewing gum when she was young!!!
When she was little my niece couldn't pronounce "brocolli" - she used to say blockery - so she called it trees. Now she is 14 and we recently went to a restaurant for her birthday. She was very tired as we had been out all day. When the waitress asked if she wanted vegetables she wearily said "have you got any trees?" The poor girl didn't know why we all fell about laughing but then the waitress said "green or white?" (brocolli or cauliflower) My niece was chuffed and asked for both!
I was certain chocolate orange's had been banned, which is why I got scared of the advert and the fact I was recieving them as Christmas presents, very worrying for a small child.
Of course, it turns out, it was the Clockwork Orange which was banned (and it wasn't even banned after all that...)
I used to be intrigued by those packets of FisherMan's Friend throat lozenges. I was determined to one day buy some when I went to the sweet shop but was scared to death that the shop assistant would refuse to sell them to me because I wasn't a fisherman! So I concocted a story in my head that my grandad was a fisherman and went to the shop in a big wooly jumper so i'd look the part. Bought them no probs but promtly threw up on first taste. Never bought them since!
I used to believe that Rose wine was a mixture of red and white wine!

My father said at the dinner table, "Hot, need salt." I also wanted salt cuz I thought it would cool down my food.
I used to believe treacle came from pigs. This was an unfortunate cross-pollenation of two kitchen conversations I was listening to at the same time: my grandmother telling me that every part of a pig was usable, even the head and cheeks - and that you could get something (I think the real answer was brawn) by boiling down pigs cheeks. This overlapped with my mother muttering something about treacle, and - no pun intended - it stuck. I thought, until I was about 16 actually, that treacle was made by boiling down pigs cheeks.
To get us to eat Liver, my mom used to call it Velvet Steak. (Steak was a very rare treat) So we were always excited about it, until we figured it out in our teens. For some reason it tasted better when it was called Velvet Steak!
