During the war my granny lived in an evacuated childrens home in the middle of a forest, since there was nothing but trees she used to think that bread rolls grew on trees.
My mom told me that eating meat would make me tan. I belived this for about two years. Then one day I told my friend and she laughed and said that it wasn't true. No wonder I'm so white.
My brother and I used to believe that eating sardine tails would make us turn into Daleks. We still ate them sometimes though and carried on the belief despite the lack of evidence!
When we were younger My cousin and I went to the next town where a fair was going on. They had this really cool trailer where a man was sitting in there biting off the heads of snakes and bats. He had snake and bat bodies laying all over on the floor. My cousin and I went on to other things and then came back later to see the man again. All the body parts were cleaned up. When it was time to go home. Mom was in the house making supper, said we were having a special treat. We were called in for supper and lo and behold there on the plate were these little slices of perfectly round green fried snakes. We took off running saying we were not hungry. When we got back home Dad asked why we left in a hurry and we told him about the snakes and bats and then the supper Mom had made, and we WERE NOT EATING SNAKE. Dad laughed and told us it was zucchini. Well it looked pretty convincing to us! UGH!
When I was younger, my cousin used to tell me that there was bird poop inside every choloate Cadbury Easter Egg. I would then stop eating my candy and end up giving it to her to eat. When she ate it like nothing, I would ask her, "If there's bird poop inside, then how come you get to eat it?" She replied, "Because I'm special." It wasn't until I was about 8 that I realized that she was only kidding.
My mom told me that if I ate uncooked cookie dough I would get worms living in my stomach. This fear lasted for years, even after ice cream companies started making varieties with names like "Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough". Later, as a young adult, I cautioned another adult who was licking the (cookie) bowl clean. My warning was greeted with a smirk followed by howls of laughter and accusations of believing everything my mother told me! Someone did tell me that uncooked flour can contain worms, but I think my mother was trying to protect the cookie dough more than she was trying to protect me!
When I was younger, my mother was making lobsters for dinner (they were still alive before she threw them in the boiling water)and everytime she threw one in, she made a low screaming noise and she says "Did you hear that? The lobsters are screaming because they're in pain" I actually believed that it was them screaming once they were thrown in the water because she never told me that it was her making the noise. I am now 24 and to this day, I listen for the lobsters when I see them getting thrown into the water.
I used to beleive my grandad was the only person in the world to have special chocolates made just for him. When I was small my grandad always used to tell me he had a secret. Then from under his chair he would get out a box of chocolate Matchmakers and give me one. I spent countless years in confectionary shops and numerous supermarkets searching for 'secrets', thinking that these were made specially for my grandad because I could never find them and nobody else had heard of them. I discovered when my mum bought me some for Christmas, that these things were actually called Matchmakers. This was when I was in my early twneties!!

I had a weird obsession with eating raw potatoes, and i don't think it bothered my mother, but she once told me that my cousin's frends had eaten heaps of potatoes to get their temperature up so they didn't have to go to uni. This i found fascinating, and so I ate even MORE than the normal amount of raw potatoes and thought my temperature would go up, but it didn't. So i figured i was completely immune to diseases (i wish! I even had the german measles, so much for IMMUNITY) HA!
I used to think that my mom had to buy ice cubes from the store and bring them home to fill up the trays.
When I was younger, my father told me the lumps in tapioca pudding were frog eyes... I still can't eat tapioca to this very day...
My dad always used to tell me that the bubbles in pop came from bugs in the bottom of the bottles that were trapped in there at the factory. He also used to say that anchovies(on a pizza) were monkey brains.
