From the time I was 3 to the time I was 6 I was afraid of hamburgers and clothes driers. My older brother told me that if I hid in the drier and someone turned it on I would turn into a hamburger. So everytime mom made hamburgers she had to make me hotdogs because I was always asking who got in the drier, and would refuse to eat the burgers. She had no clue what I mean but my brother laughed at me everytime.

When I was little my parents used to tell me and my sister that carrots were "orange candy."

My cousin and I thought if you swallowed a watermellon seed you'd grow a watermellon in your stomach. We paniced when we did swallow one because we remembered eating dirt a few weeks before and at 6 yrs. old were smart enough to know you plant seeds in dirt and water them - they grow!

When my little brother was about 3, he asked my mother and myself for "pee buh buh" over and over. He even went as far as to put both of his hands to my mom's cheeks and slowly mouth the words. We kept asking him if he meant peanut butter. After about 10 minutes of this, we figured it out. He was asking for a piece of bubble gum.

My great-grandfather firmly believed, and had me convinced, that SPAM was mouse meat.

My friends and I all believed that chewing gum took seven years to digest if you swallowed it. For some reason, one of our number thought this was a bad thing and we were all disgusting. The rest of us calculated when we could celebrate that the gum was finally all digested, which, for me, will be when I'm 19. Only a year to go.

When I was very small, one Thanksgiving, I had to go out on an emergency trip with my dad to buy a gravy boat because ours broke. I asked him what a gravy boat was and he told me it was a little boat that floats in the gravy, and when it goes bad, the boat sinks. I believed that until I was about 12 or 13.

Once, I believed that it took 7 years to digest a swallowed piece of gum. I have no idea where I got THAT from.

As a young child I used to believe that when meat was served for dinner it was only sick animals or ones that had died from being old. I finally discovered the truth when on a road trip i saw a truck full of lambs and quizzed my parents about them. They told me that is what we eat. I can honestly say I was horrified at the thought of eating heathly animals.

I used to think there were American restaurants in China where Chinese went and asked for forks to try them, just like people try chopsticks in Chinese restaurants.

In the first grade, standing in the lunchline, I told the other boys that the weenies the cooks were serving were actually weeners cut off other boys to make girls. How else could you make a girl? This made alot of the boys swear off hotdogs.

When I was 5 or so, I believed that if while I was eating a grapefruit and swallowed a pit, it would grow in my stomach and pop out of my navel.

I remember in first grade my favorite day was pizza day, except I would pick every little sead off before eating cause I didn't want pizza to "grow" in my stomache.

When I was a kid, I associated everything with food. Toys. Books. Music. Movies. Furniture. You name it.

EVERYthing reminded me of food.

On the show "Captain Kangaroo," I always knew that the one guy's name was "Mr. Green Jeans," but it didn't matter. From the instant I first heard his name, he was "Mr. Green Beans" to me.

Oh, and you know that gentle glow of sunset on a deep green lawn?

That's green beans drenched in butter. Always has been. Always will be.

I used to believe…

That french cut green beans were riendeer food and if you ate enough of them you would be able to fly like Santa's reindeer.

I thought "hors d'ouevres" was pronounced "horse dee-overs," until my Mom set me straight at about age 10.

She laughed and laughed at that one.

I used to believe there were square fish (as in fish patties). I figured that fish sticks were the square fish cut up into strips.

Funny that I didn't think cows were round, or that pigs were cylindrical. I would have said, "That's silly!"

I believed that the green part of the small onion(chive)was poisonous. My parents told me that so that I would quit eating them. Unfortunately, I never questioned them about this and did not find out the truth until a few years ago at a family dinner. I was making a salad and was trying to figure out how high up I could cut the onions. I thought my mother was going to die laughing! Needless to say I felt like an idiot and everyone got a good laugh.

I used to believe that if you didn't eat all of your veggies that the ones left on the plate would miss their friends who had gone into your stomach. Because I couldn't bear to think of them being sad I always cleaned my plate. Actually I still feel terrible tossing out left overs...
