My mates sister used to think that peanut butter was made in third world countries by starving people who had to chew up peanuts and spit them into a jar.

I used to think that salt and pepper were opposites. If you put too much salt on something adding a little pepper would even it out. Hey, at least it's logical. ; )

I used to believe that the black gum balls used for eyes in some ice creams where balls of poison, so I never got those kinds.

Once when we were in the woods, my father said he wanted to show me a gum tree. He led me over to a small tree that had pieces of Dentyne gum stuck to the branches. I don't know if he taped them there or hung the wrappers from the branches some way, but I was young enough that I believed what I saw: gum grew on trees. Another time he said, "Let's look in the creek to see if any pop washed down there." He then led me down to a creek where he must have stuck some soda earlier to cool. He was always playing tricks like this. I think it wasn't so much that he was a prankster as that he wanted the world to be a magical place.

— John Clinbrohffood : chewing gum

I used to believe that if you swallowed chewing gum, that it could not be digested, instead, the body deposited the wad of gum into the appendix. Once the appendix became too full of gum, then that person would have to have his appendix removed. I always spit my gum out as a kid, and now I don't even chew gum anymore.

I was visiting a friend of my cousin's when I was about 3 or 4. We were having lunch and the girl's mother asked if I wanted milk. I said yes. She asked if I minded skim milk. I politely said yes. She poured it and set the carton in front of me. The carton featured an outline of a slender woman. This image, and the fact that skim milk looks different, convinced me she said SKIN milk. I had a very hard time drinking it.

My grandfather told my mother and her 8 siblings that Soy Sauce was pigeon blood. It wasn't until my mom got married to my dad when she was 25 that she learned the truth.

When i was about 5 i used to believe that if you swallowed chewing gum, it would get stuck in your stomach and you would die. One day i accidentally swallowed a piece when i was at my friends house, and ran all the way home screaming i dont want to die. when i got home my mum told me that 1 piece would not kill me, and reminded me how often my sister swallowed gum.

My friend (he's in his mid twenties and is currently writing his thesis for his PhD) told us that tortilla chips contain sand. After checking a pack of Doritos he changed it to "all tortila chips apart from Doritos contain sand."

A few weeks ago he told me this amazing fact again, but it had changed to "all Mexican food contains sand".

I assume sometime when I was a young child, I ate a banana and then requested another one. My mother, thinking that one piece of fruit was enough, told me "No, you'll get sick." For the longest time, I thought there was something special about bananas in that one was a tasty treat but two would make a person sick.

when I was younger my sister & her friend told me & my friend that if we ate dandelion stems we would be beautiful...
Needless to say, we ended up pissing our pants due to the diuretic effect of eating said plants.
My question is how my sister knew that would happen, she was only 7.
