When looking after me and my sisters for the afternoon, my uncle told my little sister that the sultanas in the teacakes he had toasted for us were burnt bits. To this day she won't eat anything with currants, raisins or sultanas in it, and she's 24 now!

When my brother was young I told him if he ate the hole around the doughnut he would die.
To this day, he's 34 now, he leaves a small round crust so that he doesn't eat the hole =)

A baby-sitter once told me that peanutbutter really was baby-shit. I never ate peanutbutter again.

My sister and brother in law don't like Salt and Vinegar flavour crisps, so they told their son (my nephew) that they are "special crisps" just for him, and he eats them, leaving his parents to eat the nicer ones like Cheese and Onion.

My Grandfather told me that oysters were in fact old fisherman's spit. What it was that when they were fishing they use to spit over the side of their boat, it sank to the bottom and fell into shells. I didn't like them until I was about 18 years old.

I was a very inquisitive child. When my older sister was pregnant she told me it was because of watermelons. I was like WHY?! She explained on how when you eat the seeds they go into your belly and it grows & grows and then out comes a baby. I was like HOW?! She told me that it was like real watermelon. The baby comes out attached to this vine and the outside stays inside for other babies to grow in the next time she ate the seeds of a watermelon. Needless to say I was scared of watermelon for years! And to this day I don't eat watermelon seeds & of course discovered the 'reality of reproduction' when I was much older.

One of the dinner ladies at our school had the tips of her fingers missing and were therefore deformed. Rumour had it that school dinner sausages were 'Fingerella's' fingers. Also we wouldn't eat the tinned tomatoes as we thought they were peeled testicles.

Remember the advert for Special K ?
It had the tag line "For grown up people who don't want to grow any more."

My Mum offered me a bowl once. I freaked out. I thought I would stop growing if I ate it.

When I moved up to middle school from juniors, I was reliably informed by the older kids that the Cornish pasties served in the dinner hall were filled with dog food. I never tried one until I was about 20.
