I used to believe…
When I was about seven (i'm now 84), the grandfather of one of my friends not to eat the ends of bananas because that's where deadly spiders lived, waiting to bite you. Of coutse, I found out much later, he was confused with tarantulas that sometimes are found when bananas bunches are first harvested and are fumigated before the bananas reach the market. Een knoing the truth, to this day, I still cut off both tips.

When I was yonger I always thought fried eggs had black speckles. It wasn"t until much later that I realised my Mom put salt & pepper on the eggs as she was cooking!

My wife gets a real kick out of this, when I was young I believed that if you ate frozen bread you would get worms. She uses frozen bread to cool soup for the kids.

When I was five or six my dad told me that if I ate the hole in the donut I would get a hole in my belly and the donut would come out. I loved donuts and would eat as close to the hole as I could with out breaking it. I did this for about five years even after many people including my dad told me it was not true. I remember being very scared the first I ate the entire donut.

I knew that if you waited a little bit, food and drinks would cool down. I was astonished that my cold soda kept getting warmer instead.
I'm not sure what age I was, somewhere between 6 to 8, & was watching telly and got an incredible shock to see bananas been picked of trees. I had somehow got it into my head that bananas were made of milk and the banana skin was the packaging!

My best friend and I would take colored chalk and grind it down to poweder. We would them put the powdered chalk into a cup and mix in sugar and water thinking it was Kool Aid. The thing is, we drank it all too!

For probably about a decade, I believed that the chocolate drink "Yoohoo" was made with seaweed. My uncle told me it was one of the ingredients when I was about 5 years old, and I never drank it again after that. It wasn't until I was about 15 when a friend made me read the ingredient label that I realized I had been fooled all those years!

Whoever put this mean idea in my head way back when I was 7 needs a real good dose of what they made me believe in ...that invisible spiders were in the cheese slices and that peanuts were actually crushed insects.... I didn't want to eat or try anything that crunched for a long time after that!!! Sometimes when I'm chewing on candy or whatever and I hear that crunching sound..I think..Please don't let it be an insect!!! UUUGGGHHH!!!! (LOL)

I never knew why my grandma would stir her tea, so I came to believe that stirring a drink in a circular motion would cool it down, while stirring it in a side-to-side motion would heat it up.

When I was around 7, my stepdad told me that the sausage used on pizza was really rabbit droppings. I only believed it for a couple more years, but I think it affected me subconsciously because sausage is still the only pizza topping I don't like.

When I was about 5 (in the mid 70s) there was a Juicyfruit gum commercial in which people danced around and picked packs of gum off of a giant Juicyfruit tree. I dug a hole in our backyard, buried a pack of Juicyfruit in it, and faithfully watered it for weeks before my mom finally set me straight.
I used to believe that cookie monster actually ate all of the cookies really fast. When my parents pointed out that he would just break them up and throw them all over, I was crushed.
