I misheard something my parents said and for years I believed that if you accidentally ate a mussel without removing its "beard" (the fibre it uses to attach itself to rocks) you'd be paralysed from the waist down!!
I didn't dare eat mussels for many years - and I'm still a little wary...

Up until I was about 6 or 7, I used to think that, instead of entering the prize codes that I would find on my soda bottle caps on the internet, you were supposed to say the code out loud, and the prize would just apper in your hands. I never tried my theory, though, because I thought my parents would be mad, since I thought the prizes would cost money, and the money would dissapear.

I live near a Mcalister's Deli, and one wall of the building was completely covered in mirrors. Every time I would go there, I believed there was another part to the building (the reflection). I never understood why my mom wouldn't take me there. One day, I ventured over to it to see what it was like.
It was then I saw my own reflection.

This is not my finest moment, but when I was 9, my best friend and I told her little sister that the seeds inside a banana were actually eggs from a banana spider. She was only 6 at the time and completely believed us. She didn't eat bananas for 3 years. Totally cruel!
I used to belive that if a label said free, like fat "free" or sodium "free" , the company selling the food would pay for all of the fat or sodium in the food. I didnt realize that there was actually no fat in the product and then started to think food companies were cheap telling you they would pay for a portion of the food and not even put it in. I belived this until I was 12.

When I was little (I can't remember what age) I was told by my parents to "never ever put grapes in the microwave because they'll explode." When I asked if it would be a 'little explosion' (meaning the grape would pop or something) or a 'real explosion' (meaning an enourmous fireball) I was told "a REAL explosion".
Although I know better now, I'm still wary of putting grapes in the microwave :)
