As a child I somehow became convinced that an artichoke was some sort of small furry animal, and I was, of course, completely disturbed by the jar of 'artichoke hearts' kept in our refrigerator. To this day, my family still teases me about my genuine concern for those 'poor little artichokes'.

When I was little, I was watching a tv show and a rich girl was refusing to eat left-overs, and i dont know what it was she said that made me think this, but i always thought that left-overs was literally food you had already eaten & thrown up!!

I used to think you had to be 18 to drink coffee, just like you have to be 21 (in America) to drink alcohol. My reasoning for this was that I only saw adults drinking coffee when I was a young girl, and I thought that if a kid drank it he or she would get punished or even arrested. Now as a high school senior, seeing how many of my peers are hooked on Starbucks, I'm beginning to think that wouldn't be a bad idea! (Fortunately for me, I've always despised coffee.)

When I was 8 years old I use to chew bubble gum and swallow it because I didn't know where it would go. Then my teacher took me that swallowing gum will stay in my stomach and know I 'm 9 years old and I'm spliting out my chew gum in the trash. And for my teacher thank God we have internet.

I used to believe that tarter sauce which you eat with fried fish gave you tarter on your teeth so I wouldn't eat it for years (now I really like it). I also thought that it was made with cream of tarter (a spice).

In an effort to break bad habits, my mother told me that eating spoonfuls of sugar would give me worms. I pretty much accepted this as fact until I was about 13.
This was also the case with uncooked hotdogs.

When I was a kid I used to believe that clouds were made out of a magical cotton candy type substance (which changed flavors as the clouds changed colors at sunset), and I planned on buying a ladder to lean into the clouds which I would climb up and then I'd be able to stuff my face with the delicious cloud candy. I also believed that this ladder would only need to be about 2 or 3 times the height of my favorite big maple climbing tree, and that it wouldn't be scary to climb it.

My mother told my sister and cousin who were about the same age that eating crusts would make your hair curly. My sister never ate them and my cousin always did. My sister had the curly hair and my cousin's was always straight. I guess Mom was wrong, or maybe she had it backwards?!
