i used to believe that if you swallow a seed, it'll grow inside your body and up through your head. then you'll be walking around with a tree on top of your head. that's why people don't swallow seeds.

i hate crusts on white bread so when i was younger i used to leave the crusts on white bread (i eat them now because it's wrong to waste food) but dad, mum and grandma used to tell me that if i ate crusts it would make my hair curly and i believed this but because i hate crusts on white bread i used to say "but i don't want my hair curly"

My sister told me when I was younger that my mother would collect the frogs we would catch at night and pop out their eyeballs and when she had enough she would make Brunswick Stew. This was the answer to my question when I asked what the little grey and white balls were. In reality they were okra seeds. To this day I cannot eat okra or Brunswick Stew.

When I was about 5 years old, I had chewing gum for the first time, and I was told I couldn't swallow it. However, I ended up swallowing it anyway, and concluded that I was the only person who could swallow gum and that I was smarter than everyone else, because they couldn't swallow gum.
A couple of years later, my brother told me that if you swallow chewing gum, it stayed in your stomach for seven years, and I believed him. I was then terrified of swallowing gum, and I counted how many years it would take before the gum I'd previously swallowed would come out...

My mother used to make the same dessert every night, which was crushed pineapple and junket (like opaque jelly). My sister and I would ask her every dinnertime "what's for dessert?" and she would say "Wait and see". I thought that pineapple and junket was called 'wait and see' and that it was similar to 'curds and whey" (which sounded like it would have been similar).

When I first learned that ketchup is made from tomatoes, I realized that that must be why ketchup is red. I assumed that mustard, therefore, must be made from something yellow. The only two yellow possibilities I could think of at the time were bananas and lemons. So for quite some time I wondered whether mustard was made from lemons or from bananas.

As a child, I believed that one food touching another on my plate "contaminated" both and I would refuse to eat it. E.g., the meatloaf could not touch the potatoes or the corn, etc. Even with spaghettit and meatballs, the meatballs had to be on a separate plate and not touch the spaghetti. My VERY patient mother obliged me by serving me in separate small dishes, or at least in a compartmentalized plate to keep the risk of "contamination" to a minimum. (And don't even let me get started about how this complicated visits to a restaurant!) Years later, I was very surprised and humored to see that the TV character "Monk" has the same little food fetish! I guess I was a little OCD in my youth and didn't even know it.....

When I was four or five, my grandmother always told me not to drink my tea with the spoon in the cup. She told me I would have an accident. It wasn't until I was in my teens that I realized that I would poke out my eye. I actually believed that I would fall down the steps or get hit by a car or some other horrible thing would happen to me.

So ever sense I am sure to spit out the seeds when eating watermelon.

My mom told me that gum couldn't be digested, so you shouldn't swallow it.

I thought this meant that is I swallowed my gum is would just sit at the bottom of my stomach for the rest of my life.

So every time I chewed gum and did swallow it, I imagined that that chunk went down and added itself to the pile of undigested gum.

When I was little I somehow thought that Rice Krispies were Gremlins that when you ate them jumped into your ears and ate your brain. I also believed in a fairy at the bottom of the garden called Dingo.

I used to believe that bananas were made in factories because I didn't think they had seeds. When a classmate told me that he lived near a banana factory I said Wow do they make bananas there? He said No mate, they package them. Bananas grow... @_@

When I was younger, I thought that if you take a handful of peanuts and then closed your hand, it would turn into a Snickers bar. It worked on the commercial, so it should work for me too. I told my mom I wanted a thing of peanuts, and she found this weired because I didn't even like them. When she saw me closing my hand on them repeatedly and I told her what I was doing , she asked me why I just didn't ask for a Snicker bar. I said I thought this would be cooler. But finally she got me a Snickers bar anyway, lesson learned.

I remeber when I was about four, we kept the water jug in the fridge. I, of course, was to short to reach it because it was on the top shelf. So for some reason, I started calling it Wa-Wa-High. I was convinced it was that until my preschool teacher told me differently. I was abosulutely crushed
Another time was when I was at my uncles house or something and we were roasting hot-dogs. I might have not roasted my long enough, becausewhen I started eating it, my uncle said my eyes would turn bright green, like an aliens. Me and my sister rushed to the bathroom, to check if our eyes had gone alien on us. They hadn't, but I didn't eat hot-dogs until I was around seven! (I was about five then)

For some number of years, my mother had my brother and I convinced that the preparation of meatloaf required that we clean up all the leaves in the yard and give them to her. No, really. There were little green leaf-looking bits in the red sauce of the meatloaf, and we thought it was due to our diligent efforts.

On becoming a little older, I thought to ask why she needed a whole giant trash bag full of dried-out brown fall leaves just to put a sprinkling of green leaf stuff on the meat. So now we just have it with gravy.
