I used to believe…
My sister used to tell me that pickle juice came from a spring in Africa.
I used to believe that seeds, if ingested, would grow into trees within you. I remember being terrified after eating a watermelon slice with a seed. I refused to drink water coz watering the seed would make it a plant then a tree.

When I was about 10, my babysitter and neighbour, who was about 14, told us that if we ate unripe black walnuts, we would get really smart (they look like brains inside). But if you ate the inside, you had to eat the green rind too, because the brains were poisionous and the green was the antidote. She explained that that was why not everyone was eating the "kemosabes", which was what the walnuts were called. They tasted awful. My mom just laughed at us. Nice.
I used to believe that knowledge was a vitamin.
Like, an actual vitamin called Vitamin K.
I just remember my brother on my first day of school telling me 'knowledge is a vitamin'.
I was 8 when I found out he was talking crap.

when i was little i used to wonder how the ice-cream ended up inside bottom of the cone when they were just plopped on top and the cone was completely empty at first...after much thinking, i assumed the ice-cream magically appeared in the cone after some while :P

When I was about 8, my mom joked to me that if you swallowed chewing gum it'd gum up your guts.
I spent weeks terrified of swallowing chewing gum and that I'd die. One day I fell of my bike and swallowed some by accident. I ran back home, crying like crazy. My mom asked me what was wrong, and started laughing when I explained that it wasn't the fall, but the "chewing gum thing". They still rib me about that.

My cousin and I used to think that if we ate cheese and toothpaste that it would be healthy and clean our teeth at the same time.....
IT was the nastiest thing I've ever tasted...we did it about twice before her mom caught us.

I used to believe that if you swallowed a watermelon seed, a watermelon tree would grow inside your stomach and you would explode.

When I was little I thought pancakes were pan-a-cakes because of the pat-a-cake game my mom played with me. (I thought she was saying "pan-a-cake,pan-a-cake, baker's man) I loved pancakes and asked for them all the time calling them "pan-a-cakes". Then when I was about five my grandmother told me they were really called "pancakes" and that sounded so wrong! It took years before it began to sound okay to just say "pancake".

Once, when my mother was cooking a chicken gizzard, I saw it sizzling in the middle of the pan, and asked what it was. I heard my mother say, "it's a half-cooked lizard." I'm certain now that she said gizzard, but when I heard lizard, I swear it looked just like a small lizard, frozen in place, cooked before it could escape.

When I was five, I used to believe the yolk in a hard-boiled egg was a spider's stomach. Not to mention the fact that we read THE OLD LADY THAT SWALLOWED A FLY in preschool at the public library, where we took frequent field trips to. The fact that it moved around inside her freaked me out even more. I wouldn't eat the yolk in a hard boiled egg for a LONG time.
I hate avacados for one simple reason my grandma puts slices of them in her salads and when i was little maybe 4, I ate one not knowing what it was and made a face. My uncle who was sitting next to me told me it was a slug and to be more careful when I ate salad... I have given avacados the benifit of tasting better but the majority of the time that slug reference still freaks me out. I am almost 30...

once when i was babysitting, i had to go to the grocery store, so i had to bring the kid along with me, while we were there, he desperately wanted a coconut, i bought him one, and when i asked him what he was going to do with the coconut, he shook it (hearing the milk inside) and then said " i'm going to to home and plant it, and i won't even have to water it because it already produces it own water"
i work at a school and a little girl there really enjoys playing in the sandbox on the playground, well she had decided to make me pretend food out of the sand, and then she decided she wanted me to make her something, so i told her i would make her an ice cream sundae, then with true concern, she said "STOP, you can't, its not Sunday! make me an ice cream Monday!"

In kindergarden, I read the side of juice boxes as 'Best Served Child' as they were stictly for children and thought this was very nice of the people who made a product just for kids - grown ups were not to drink it as it said so on the side of the box!
Years later I realised that it said 'Chillled', not 'Child'.

when i was about 3-4 years old my mam told me that if i wouldn't be thankfull for having food to eat,my food would, suddenly disappear from my plate...so from this time i started yelling :THANKS!"every time i left the kitchen..
somehow,i still say thanks till now everytime i left anyone's kitchen...i am 18 years old!
I was babysitting my little cousin one day and I thought it would be a treat to give her gushers with her lunch. I was completly thrown when she started screaming and ran away. Only sfter I calmed her down did she explain to me that if you ate gushers, your head would turn into fruit (like in the commercial) I still don't think she really understands that its not real.

This belief has to do with my kids and my sister. My kids always loved eating tortilla shells by themselves. When they were very small, they were each eating one while my sister was visiting. I made a sarcastic remark to my sister and she commented back to me "Oh, go hug a bear." (She was making a polite remark to me because my kids were in the room. One day the kids came to me and asked me for a "hugabear." I had no idea what they were talking about. After I had them show me what they were talking about, I realized the connection they had made that day. For years after that, I just let them call tortilla shells hugabears.
