when i was around 8 years old, my dad let me watch clockwork orange. i think he only let me watch it in hope that i wouldn't understand any of it. One day when I was in kindergarten, someone brought "worms in dirt" (crushed Oreos and gummi worms) as a snack for the class. Despite the teacher's repeated insistence to the contrary, I remained convinced that the dirt and worms were real. The teacher eventually had to bring me a different snack from somewhere else in the building because I refused to eat the worms and dirt. Nobody else in the class had this problem.
I thought that if you ate paw-paw (papaya) you had to get a needle in your spine. I think I must have seen two stories on the news, one about pawpaw and one about epidurals - somehow they melded in my brain. I still can't make myself eat pawpaw - even though I like the taste

We used to have our milk delivered to us, and the truck that brought it was white. My sister convinced me that chocolate milk would only be delivered by the brown trucks (UPS). Since we never got chocolate milk, and the UPS trucks never came to our house, either, the story made sense for years.

My grandfather told me the round green fruit in canned fruit cocktail were "geezleberries." For years, I only had a mild curiosity as to why I never saw any raw (i.e. not canned) geezleberries, and my family always jokingly referred to canned grapes as "geezleberries", ha ha ha. Only I wasn't in on the joke. I was well into my twenties when my younger sister perceived that I really thought they were called geezleberries and convinced me (with some difficulty) that they were grapes.

When my brother was little, he was very picky with what he would eat- only fruits and vegetables. He considered himself a "Fruititarian." We convinced him that chicken grew on a tree and was a fruit so that he would eat. He believed that for years.
