When i was little, I used to ponder over the way asparagus grew out of the ground in my neighbor's garden. My neighbor told me they were the "devil's fingers" and one day i got scared and ran over into the garden and stomped each and every one of those asparagus plants. My mother was not a happy camper after that one.

Growing up in America, I always knew gherkins as pickles. When I was around 12 I heard the word gherkin, and I thought it was a sex toy or a dirty word of some sort. I didn't find out otherwise until very recently, I'm ashamed to say.

When I was a toddler my parents bought chicken noodle soup in packets. These contained dry noodles and a crumbly brownish soup base. I thought the brownish stuff was chicken poop.

I was not disgusted by this idea. Meat was dead animals and milk came out of cows, so maybe we used other things that came out of animals too.

When I was little I believed that if you ate the white part of the watermelon rind you would die. I have no idea where that came from.

I used to think if you chewed gum while using the toilet it would come out your butt. I would always spit out gum before sitting down.

i was told if you chewed gum and swallowed it if you were a boy it would stick your stomach together and if you were a girl when you grew up and had a baby it would be born with gum in its hair

I used to think a gherkin was some sort of sea creature so when I asked what was on my burger I was shocked to find out it was actually a vegetable

I have always hated my curls (thank God for GHD's) and when I was smaller I stopped eating my crusts in hope my hair would go straight.

I used to believe…

When I was small, I would never eat anything like jelly babies, animal cookies, gingerbread men or anything that was animal shaped because I used to think they had feelings and I'd hurt them if I ate or bit into them - weird I know!

Our family travelled from Texas to Ohio a few times a year, and often passed large fields that grew hay. In the fall the hay would be gathered into huge round wheels and wrapped in huge white plastic bags. As we passed fields full of these huge white round things, my dad told us they were marshmallow farms, and I used to wonder how they chopped up those HUGE marshmallows into smaller ones we bought in the store.

my brother and I used to think we could make bubblegum balls ourselves. We would roll chewed up saltines into balls, cover them with pepto bismol (pink and minty), and leave them in the refrigerator to harden. it didn't work.

Since I have naturally curly hair my mom used to tell me my hair would go even more curlier. I was put off eating crusts because I didnt want an Afro

I remember being really turned off of tinned Potted Meat (we used it as a sandwhich spread when I was a kid) after hearing my mom jokingly refer to it as "Potty" (as in toilet) Meat. Given what Potted Meat actually is, I should have been turned off to begin with.

I thought the end pieces of bread had no crust. I hated crust, so I'd always ask for those pieces.

Later, I learned that those pieces were pretty much just "crust," and I wouldn't eat them anymore. Amazing how the taste of something changes once you know what it really is!

At the age of eight, I GAVE UP thinking milk came from cows. The reason? A friend had an alternative theory she could PROVE. Milk didn't come from cows... it came from flowers, like nectar for bees.
The proof? Not so hard to find. Just walk through a grassy field in summer, pick a dandelion flower, and snap its stem in half with your fingernails...

When I was about 3 I asked my mom where the milk in the grocery store came from. She responded by telling me it came from cows. I asked where the cows came from, and she decided to say that they lived in the store. The store kept them in the back of the dairy aisle and milked them there.
She then went on to say that if you were really quiet, you could see the cows. And just to add an extra touch she would have me turn around and search while she made little moo sounds under her breath. At some point, I convinced myself that the cows where magical and if I ever found them they would give me something cool; like wise-yoda-like-COWS! Of course, I'd never see them, and she'd tell me its because I wasn't quite enough. So for the rest of the trip I'd want to stay in the aisle and look.

Its been 13 years I still look for those stupid magical cows, and my mom laughs till she turns blue. (I know they don't exist but I can't help it!)
