When I was little, I thought that ladies were supposed to drink wine and men were supposed to drink beer. I also knew that alcohol was bad for you, so one night I assured my mom that when I grew up, I would drink "only" one bottle of wine each day (I figured that one bottle was one serving, since one can of beer is one serving of beer). My mom was so horrified that she made me promise never to drink it at all.
Years later, she supervised my first drinking experience. I suspect she was comforted when I came to the conclusion that alcohol tastes utterly vile anyway.
I used to believe that tic tacs were drugs. Something about growing up in the "Just Say No" 80s?
Every time someone would offer me a tic tac, I would say no. And I couldn't believe how many people took drugs!

until 5 mins ago i didnt no gerkins and pickles were the same thing i thought they were completley different..........
I was told that everything was made of atoms, which were too small to be seen. Not wanting to eat the crust on my bread, but told I couldn't leave the table until I "cleaned my plate," I tried to break the crust into smaller and smaller crumbs until they became atoms and my mother couldn't see them, anymore. My plan never progressed to a satisfactory state of completion before my mother came to check on me, though.

Before I could read, I believed "macaroni and cheese" was "Macaronian cheese," a way of preparing cheese, originating in Macaronia.
i was told that if we made a noise whilst a cake was baking in theoven it wouldn't rise.
it was only when i tried to keep the rest of the cookery class quite during a cake baking lesson that i realised it was my mothers way of keeping myself and my siblings quiet for a while.

When I was quite little, my Dad showed me a cut-out red heart, and asked me what it was. Apparently (since I was obsessed with tomatoes at the time), I came out with, "A giant tomato'.
Also, when I still lived with my Mum, she was living with her then boyfriend (who's actually the father of one of my half-brothers), who told me that, if I ate a wild mushroom and didn't tell him, I would die.
I wonder if that's why I've never liked mushrooms...

When at the grocery store, I used to believe that when an item said "fat free" it meant the fat in it was free of charge!
i used to believe that if you swallowed a seed from a piece of fruit such as an apple or water melon, especially, a tree would grow in your belly.
I used to believe that the kind of food (ethnic origin) you ate determined your race.

When I was young my Dad told me that if you put alot of soy sauce on your food that would be poison. It was ok to use a little, but pretty tricky business as a little kid trying to figure out what amount would be just right and not poisonous.

When I was around 5 years old I became curious as to where foods came from and was still trying to process and accept that "meat" came from animals. One day while eating lunch I wondered where my hot dog came from and asked my mother. I fully expected her to say it grew on a tree in some far away land but to my shock and horror she told me "hot dogs come from cows." It made perfect sense - hot dogs were actually cow boobs (udders) - a cow has six udders and, in those days, hot dogs came in packs of six! Then I thought what a waste of life to kill a whole cow just for a single pack of hot dogs!!!

When I was in primary school the dinnerladies always said 'eat all your food - that'll put hairs on your chest!' I assumed adults were always right and believed them. When lunch was over I realised i'd accidentally eaten all my food. Seeing as i'm female I wasn't too happy. I had to keep checking that I hadn't grown some kind of rug on my chest, and lay awake that night in fear.
i used to think that a glass of water ment the water was cold, while a cup of water ment the water was room tempature.

Maybe I should've watched less sci-fi when I little.
I used to believe that "chicharron" (a latino's food --deep fried pork skin) was made out of pig's ears. The reason I believed that for a long time is because in my home country (Nicaragua) we call "chicharron" by a different name: "Torrejas" which rymes with "orejas" (ears in Spanish).

My Dad used to tell me that all the leftover chocolate, eg:people threw away, dropped on the street, were collected and turned into Easter Eggs! But nothing could stop me from eating them.
