My brother and I used to believe that lobster tails were poisonous to eat if you were under 18 years of age. We grew up in Maine and my dad would get our loster tails whenever we ate lobster for dinner. The plot was revealed when we had lobster at a friend's house and the parents were confused upon receiving our lobster tails.

When I was a kid mom would occasionally make grits for breakfast. I hated them with a passion. I asked her what they were made out of, "Pig butts", she replied. I believed it well into my teens.

When I was little, my science teacher taught us that there are bacteria in the air and water. So, I used to believe that, when I was very hungry, I could just breathe in deep and eat all the bacteria in the air for food.

When I was small, my parents and I would go fishing. As a small child, I saw that the fish were eating the worms. I realized that if they ate the worms, I would also be eating worms when I ate the fish. I couldn't eat fish until I was over thirty years old.

I used to think that pistachios(the kind still in the shell) were actually little clams! I used to have a whole bunch of "pet clams" that I would play with and talk to. It horrified me whenever I saw my dad eating pistachios!

I thought that if you put peanuts in the blender, you would get peanut blender. So, I learned two things, one, that that is, in fact, untrue, and two, that peanuts will break the blender.
Also I thought that if you stirred milk long enough and fast enough that your would eventually get butter. I got bored after ten minutes of trying and decided that I wasn't "cut out" for the dairy world.

I used to believe that the old tan M&Ms tasted different than all other M&Ms. I would eat M&Ms, but every time I tried a tan one, thinking maybe I'd gotten a bad one last time, I hated it. Needless to say, I was happy when they replaced them with the blue ones.

I used to think that wedding cakes were just a fake decoration especially made for a wedding, with a miniture bride and groom on top of it. I believed it because everytime I went to the country club with my parents, outside the reception ball room there is always a fake wedding cake that advertises for wedding receptions and chefs that can make personalised wedding cakes, and everytime I asked if I was allowed to eat it I would be told, "No, it's fake."

Our family travelled from Texas to Ohio a few times a year, and often passed large fields that grew hay. In the fall the hay would be gathered into huge round wheels and wrapped in huge white plastic bags. As we passed fields full of these huge white round things, my dad told us they were marshmallow farms, and I used to wonder how they chopped up those HUGE marshmallows into smaller ones we bought in the store.

When eating a chicken dinner on a Sunday afternoon at home, my two brothers always got the legs so I ate one too. Only I ate the neck thinking it was a leg until my older brother asked me, "how many legs does a chicken have?" I then realized I wasn't eating a leg!

When I was young my dad once told me that turkeys were baby elephants that would then make a cocoon and come out as a 'real' elephant. He also said that that because people ate so many turkeys the number of elephants was dwindling. after that my mother could never get me to eat any kind of poultry.
