When I was little, I loved pickles. I would eat them all the time. My upstairs neighbor told me that if I ate too many, I would turn bright green. My parents couldn't figure out why I was crying so hard for the longest time, until I got up the courage to tell them I was afraid of turning colors!

I like pickles. When I was little, my mom told me if I kept my hand in the pickle jar too long my hand would turn into a pickle. So afterwards, whenever I wanted a pickle, I'd have to grab one really fast and then dry off my hand before it turned green... my mom is evil.

Some years back, I bought this video game (yes, I still play those) where you would go around and collect different types of weapons and armor. Now, I'd known for some time that gherkins are pickles, but I didn't really know how gherkin was spelled. So, when I found a type of armor called a "jerkin" (apparently some sort of padded leather suit) I thought "what...? Why is there pickle armor in this game?!" I was really embarrassed when my friend told me otherwise.

Up untill about a year ago I thought that pickles grew on a pickle tree or something!! I had no idea they were actually cucumbers, untill my mother told me.

Up until about two seconds ago, when I read someone else's post, I really had NO idea what a gherkin was. I thought it might be some sort of little animal, like a toad or something, or a fish.

OK, for th LONGEST time, i used to believe pickles just grew. i had no idea they were cucumbers. NO IDEA. i had seen cucumbers, i had seen pickles, but in my head, they had NO relation. so naturally, things like pickled eggs were made from the pickle plant. so i had no idea that pickles were actually cucumbers!

Until very recently, I believed that pickles were cucumbers that had gone bad. I'm 22. A few years before that, I thought they were a separate veggie that grew on their own, until a family member corrected me otherwise. My friends and fiance has not let me live it down since!

Growing up in America, I always knew gherkins as pickles. When I was around 12 I heard the word gherkin, and I thought it was a sex toy or a dirty word of some sort. I didn't find out otherwise until very recently, I'm ashamed to say.

I used to think a gherkin was some sort of sea creature so when I asked what was on my burger I was shocked to find out it was actually a vegetable

One day as a child, my mother and I were sitting down to eat in a small diner. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich which came with a pickle. I picked up the pickle and asked my mother, "Mommy, what animal do pickles come from?"

The only reason I found out that pickles were actually cucumbers... was watching Veggie Tales with my seven-year-old sister. She kept insisting it was and I kept telling her to shut up because she didn't know what she was talking about. Imagine her triumphant glee when she found out that I found out I was wrong! I had to have been about tweleve at the time and thought they were some type of mutated green vegetable that grew on the ocean floors...

Gotta be... VEGGIE TALES!!!

When I was 19 I found out that pickles don't, in fact, grow on trees as I had always thought. I picked up a short little cucumber and said "Gee, this is just about the size of a pickle" and had to sit through my boyfriend's entire family laughing at me.

This is sad. I use to believe gherkins were indeed a "fancy pants" word for jerky as in beek jerky. Yeah, so the cashier even had a good laugh when I asked for a pack of beef "gherkins." I was eighteen.

That's one big Gherkin!!!!!

My grandpa used to tell me that eating pickles would make me grow hair on my chest. I am a girl, but I loved pickles so much I couldn't help myself! After eating a few, I would always run to the bathroom to see if I had grown any hair.
