When I was little I used to believe that if I ate grapes with the pips in that a grape tree would grow out of my ears. Imagine my horror when one day I swallowed one by accident! I spent the whole night worrying that by the time I woke up I would have the branches sticking out of my ears and that I would have to go to school like that!

My kindergarten teacher once told me that if I were to eat grapes with seeds, grapevines would grow out of my ears. Since I loved grapes I ate all of my friends grapeseeds too. Wouldn't it be neat to be able to pick grapes from your ears?

My brother and I were convinced that if we swallowed any seeds, they would sprout inside us and grow, and we'd die a horrible death with branches poking out of our mouths, ears, belly button, and (uugh!) eyes. We still don't eat tomatoes.

When I was little, I used to believe that if I eat grapes with seeds, a grape vine will be grown from my throat. So if I accidentally swallow a grape seed, I won't drink water that day so that the seed can't grow.

My whole family would always get together at my Grandmother's house in the country to celebrate 4th of July. One year when my cousin Tommy was about 6 years old, he suddenly started crying and totally freaking out. My older cousin and I finally got him to calm down enough to speak. He was upset because he had swallowed a watermelon seed. One of the kids at his school had told him that if he swallowed a seed it would grow roots in his belly and branches all up inside of his brain.
