My parents did not get married until I was 15 years old, so as I child my parents and different surnames and I took my mothers. It should be noted that my parents still LIVED together, they just didn't get married. I, as most children do, thought that every family was basically the same as mine. So, when I was about 5 or 6, we went on holiday with another family. There was something about this family which rather confused me, so I asked my mum "mummy, why do they all have the same surname?". Well it DID seem rather strange....

My mum is a sociologist and it took me a long time to work out exactly what she did for a living. When I was three we went for a holiday on a farm. One morning at the farm I ran off and hid. My mum called me from the yard and said "Where are you?". A little voice said back "I'm in the henhouse". My mum then said "what are you doing in the henhouse?" and I replied "sociology"!!

One time when I was little I tried to french kiss my mom by sucking on her nose. She pulled away and said "what are you doing" and I explained I was kissing like in the movies. She told me that only mommies and daddies can kiss like that and i grew up for a long time laughing at the ignorance of my mom everytime I saw someone without kids french kissing.
I used to think that you couldn't kiss someone until you got married. I thought that when the bride and groom kissed that was their first kiss. I was 7 years old.

When I was about 6 my mother told me that she had been fired from her job. At that time I thought that "fired" meant being thrown in a fire and burned up. I couldn't figure out for the life of me, if she had been fired, how she could still there to tell me about it.

When I was very little, an older family friend would always talk about how she was "shrinking" and that one day I'd be bigger than her. Well, I took this information and from my very active imagination, I concluded that people grow as big as giants when they turn 100. Then, they start to go backwards, and they shrink until they become babies again. This cycle would continue until the person died from being shot or some completely unnatural thing. I really was a strange kid.

I then got jealous and demanded to see the little girl who STOLE my job.

I have three older brothers who used to tease me and make up all kinds of things that I, with my active imagination, would believe. When I was around 8 or 9 years old, they told me Dad was in the Ku Klux Klan, and that he hid his white sheet in the closet. I searched for quite a while and never found the KKK sheet. Of course, it was a big joke. I never found it to be funny!
