I remember back when I was about four or five, I was afraid of firemen. I thought they came to set your house on fire.
So, one day you can hear the firetruck going down the street. I heard it and screamed! I ran into my room, I think I stayed there for about 40 minutes!

As a child, my cousin was so insistant that I would marry him when we were adults. He used to calmly say, "Yes, we will," and I'd yell, "NO, WE WON'T!!!!" All of the adults in our family would ignore us and never try to stop him, so I believed they were all in on a plot to force me to marry my cousin when we were of age.

So, my sister asked why and my grandmother told her that we had Japanese heritage in our family. She believed it for years. Turns out we are 100% Irish.

When my best friend's younger sister was around three years old, her family was having dinner with the preacher. Trying to make conversation with the kids, the preacher asked them both what they wanted to be when they grew up. The younger sister proudly replied, "A toothbrush!". She thought that would be the perfect occupation, because you got to be very useful to people but you only had to work three times a day. My friend swears that's the only time she ever heard her preacher laugh.

When you're little, the standard question from grown-ups is always, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Since everybody kept asking me, I thought that I had until my high school graduation to decide, and then that would be my job from that day on. I could never understand why everybody didn't decide to be rich and famous.
