A girl who lived near to me and my older brother was only 3 or 4 months younger than my brother was. It was her 7th birthday this particular day and I remember remarking to my brother that he had better hurry up and get older because Linda was catching up with him.

When I was about 5 years old I must have seen some documentary about the ancient Egyptians. I was horrified when I saw what they did to people when they mummified them. Somehow I thought this practice still went on today and became terrified. I was so worried that I used to pray to God everynight to ask him to stop anyone from mummifying me when I grew up.

a frequent fantasy, until about age 6,
was that my parents were aliens and wearing very detailed human suits. On some given day, they were going to "unzip" their disguises and reveal their true appearance. This may have been fed by the old TV series Mission Impossible with Martin Landau pulling off ocmplex masks.

When I was about 4, I knew that people changed as they got older, so I believed I was going to grow up to be a boy with red hair and freckles.. even though at the time I was (and still am) a mostly freckle-free female brunette.
I used to beleive that my parents had magical powers. Every time they kissed a boo-boo, it went away. Every time I asked a question they knew exactly the right answer. Even realizing that it wasn't magic, just wisdom, I was scared to death when I got pregnant at 18. I told my mom that I didn't have the "magic" of parenting and that I would be a failure. She of course had no idea what I was talking about. (I got the magic a few months later)

When I was around five or six, I once asked my parents that if I hadn't been born into their family would I have been born into somebody else's. It took a while for my dad to stop laughing ...
I used to think that my uncle was a secret agent because everytime he came round to our house when I lived in Glasgow he used to speak to me in a series of grunts and whistles and stuff rather then in english. He'd then sly-lee give me money.
