I used to believe…
When I was about 5 (early 1970s) I was thinking about how I might go about meeting a suitable partner when I was older. I thought it would be as simple as going up to the main road and waiting for someone nice-looking to come along, then asking if they wanted to get married.

When I was little, I fell out of my fathers truck, onto my knee, on our cement driveway. He pointed at the crack and told me the broke the driveway which made me laugh instead of cry. I just found out that I never broke the driveway in the first place, there had always been a crack. I'm 19.

When I was little, my dad would blow my lights out before I went to bed, as if you blew candles out. It took me a long time to realize he just switched the flip at the same time.

When I was little I thought that there were men who worked under the ground walking under the streets turning on the street lamps one by one and then turning them off again in the morning. I used to think I'd hate that job and all that walking! haha

When I was six my mom told me that nuns never get married. I came to the conclusion that all women that do not get married eventually become nuns. I even asked my aunt (not married & in her forties) when she was going to become a nun...

My grandfather had to have surgery for an intestinal problem when i was very young. He had a large growth, and told me it was because he accidentally swallowed a basketball. I had a bad habit of putting non-food items in my mouth at the time, and scoffed at him. when he came home from surgery, he gave me a deflated basketball. i never put a non food item in my mouth again.

When I was a small child my dad took me to see Buckingham Palace, the guards were outside and he told me that they were robots. It wasn't until 10 years later when I was 15 years old did I finally find out the truth..

I used to believe that only people who's first name was "doctor" could be a doctor. I was heavily disappointed with my mother for not naming me doctor.
I used to believe that a metal sculpture of a fireman's hat and coat on the wall of the fire house was the ash-covered remains of a fireman who had died heroically in a fire. Every time we drove past it, I was terrified that people could die like that on the job.

My granddad would tell me that the bread crusts would make my hair grow curly. I always wanted curly hair, so also ate my crusts.

When I was a kid during world War II, my grandmother was a keen knitter and it seemed she could create almost any shape from those flashing needles, of which she had many different types. On finding a huge pair about 15inches long, I asked my Dad what they were for, and he told me, "For knitting battleships for the Navy". Now, as every four year old knows, Dads know everything, so I accepted this as just another incomprehensible adult explanation that I still couldn't really understand. Then I saw my Mum scouring a frying pan with some metallic stuff, and she told me it was called steel wool. So that explained everything - of course you could knit with wool made of steel, so my Dad was right again and my grandma was as brilliant as I always knew she was.

I used to believe a honeymoon was when newlyweds flew up to the moon and scooped honey off the moon to keep it in a jar forever.

When I was little, I used to think that the ring bearer and the flower girl would have to get married one day. I thought that the wedding they participated in was just practice for their OWN wedding. This really confused me because I was the flower girl in five weddings, and in three of them one of my cousins was the ring bearer. I was so confused because a) I only wanted to get married once, and b) I definitely didn't want to marry my cousin. Needless to say I was relieved when mama set me straight.

When I was little I used to think that my family, friends, and everyone else, were all robots and I was the only real human being in the world. I was always scared they were gonna do experiments on me D:

I grew up with my mom listening to country music on the stereo in the living room. She told me for years that the stereo would explode if we ever turned the station. I was terrified when my brother came running in to tell me I had to listen to a song by Styx, Paradise Theater.. I was soo scared as he turned it to the rock station. wait... mom lied!

When I was little I used to believe that children in movies where played by adults. I just figured that they edited them smaller. Since acting is a job, and jobs are for adults, it made perfect sense.
I used to believe that there was no way adults could have friends, that it was just a kid thing. I still sort of believe this, even though I'm 17 and most of my friends are legal adults.
