I used to believe…

When I was younger I used to believe that Albuquerque was in Japan, because my Japanese grandparents had a house there. This illusion was shattered when the pizza man came to the door and spoke english.... and was white.

I Used To believe if you lied to your parents a black spot would appear on your tounge, because every time I lied my parents told me to stick out my tounge and tell me they could see a black spot on it. This meant I was lying.

I thought that enchiladas were an inch long (inch-aladas). Before I had a good grasp on what an inch was, I thought this meant that an inch was fairly big, the size of an enchilada. I kept assuming that an inch was big, bigger and bigger until I was set straight after declaring that a car was an inch long.

When I was little my Nana told me that if I lied my tongue would stick to the roof of my mouth...I didn't lie for years.

I was the youngest of 5 children. The three oldest were 10, 11, and 12 years older than me. I believed that as I grew up, they would get smaller, so I would have a fair chance at getting them back.

I used to believe…

For a long time, I thought my Dad was a girl who grew up to be a man. He never told me that he used to be a little girl, but he would often say things like "When I was a little girl, I always helped my mom do the dishes." He said these things so often that I believed him until I was 6.

When i was little my grandma told me that if u didnt wash your ears properly then Roses would grow out of them.
So naturally I didnt wash my ears (ew) and tried to wash my hair without getting my ears wet.
about two weeks later my sister reminded me that roses has thorns after i boasted to her that i was going to have flowers in my ears.
I have never scrubbed my ears so hard in my life...

I used to believe…

Ironically my parents were born on the same day; so growing up, I thought all parents had the same birthdays.

I was adopted at 2 1/2 so my Dad always told me adpoted children were the best kind because my parents got to pick me out and other parents were just stuck with the kids they got.

When my parents adopted my little sister (I was 4) they let me go into the room to "pick her out" For years I held it over her that she wouldn't even be here if I hadn't picked her out. I think I was around 12 when I remembered the detail that there was no other child in the room besides my then 9 month old sister. My sister was in the late teens when she figured out the truth.

I used to believe…

When I was little, adults used to tell kids that if you pulled a funny face and the wind changed direction, you'd be stuck like that forever. I believed that for years!

I used to believe…

When I was little I thought that the street a crossing guard worked on was named after the crossing guard because my grandmother Carmen worked on Carmen Ave.

I wanted to dress up as a leopard for Halloween and my mom had made me a costume that zipped up the back. As my father was helping me to get dressed he told me a story about my brother dressing up like a dog for Halloween which I didn't understand because I was an only child. Then he pointed to our border collie Truman and told me that Truman used to be my brother but they couldn't find the zipper at the end of the night so he had become our dog. I was never so glad to get out of a costume in my entire life.
