I used to think up until I was about 6, that you stayed a kid forever, and that adults were always adults and were never kids. It wasn't until one day I heard my mom say something along the lines of when she was a kid. I asked, Wow! You were a kid too? lol I was shocked.

I believed that my clothes shrunk in my wardrobe over time, rather than me growing out of them. I thought everyone was born a certain size and had to buy new clothes when their current clothes had shrunk too small to fit anymore!

Up until about 5 minutes ago, when I read a similar belief on this site, I used to think candy stripers in hospitals were called candy strippers. I'm 16. I never thought that they were actually strippers, I just thought it was part of the name. Thankfully I don't think I've ever said 'candy stripper' out loud to anyone, that I know of. Still, I feel stupid now XD

I used to think that getting fired from your job really meant that you would be set on fire. I learned that my mom lost her job when I was about 7 and I was scared for a while that she was going to be burned up. When it didn't happen, I figured it out.

For many years of my childhood I believed that men couldn't sing. This was solely based on the fact that my dad is completely unable to carry a tune. I really don't know how I failed to notice that there were plenty of men on TV and radio who could sing well.

I used to believe that your social security number was for a special account the government started for you when you went to work, and they kept money you saved up for when you were old.

When I was about 5 I thought my mom and dad came into being the same time I did! For some reason they didn't exist before me, and neither did anyone else. Some people just came into existence older than others and then everyone got to grow up. I was shocked to see our photo's of my siblings when they were younger.

We used to get a call from our grandparents in Europe every year on our birthday. My mother explained it was the middle of the night where they were.

Because of the bad phones lines then the voice on the other end sounded very soft. I thought they were whispering because everyone else was asleep, so I whispered too. That's why my grandmother always yelled through the phone "Speak louder! I can't hear you!"

I used to believe that my clothes would get bigger so I could always wear them. My mother would tell me that some piece of clothing had "gotten too small" and I would insist that it would get bigger. I guess I figured that if I gotten bigger, and the clothes had "gotten smaller," they could also get bigger, since they were clearly changing size already.

You know how many old ladies like to perm or curl their hair by some other way? I somewhy figured out that while woman's hair turns gray, it also becomes curly at the same. I never thought about why old men's hair doesn't curl the same way.

I realized, that the hair doesn't curl by itself just few days ago, and I'm 14.. I feel sort of stupid now.

When I was younger i believed that when you had children you could read your kids minds. I never thought bad things about my parents when they where near me until I was about ten years old.

I went shopping with my mum wen I was younger and she put a note in a machine (which gave you change for the shooping carts.) and all these coins fell out.
My grandmother gave me a pound note and I was so excited as i thought I was going to be rich until my mum told me she had put a �20 note in hence the 20 �1 coins that came out.

I used to believe my Mum had lied that my father was dead. I believed he was hiding from us and would one day come back to surprise us. I could only hope...

When I was younger my grandfather and uncle got in a fight and my grandfather got punched in the eye. When I asked why his eye was all swollen they told me he sneezed and his eyeball popped out and had to be put back.

When I was young, around 6 or 7, I saw my mum taking some tablets in the kitchen. I asked what they were (I was very nosey/inquisitive and liked asking questions) and she said they were to 'stop mummy from having any more babies.'
By this point I already had a younger brother and sister so had a vague idea of where babies came from, in that they came from mummy's tummy, but I had no idea about what daddy's role was in it all.
For years I was terrified that when a girl got old enough she would spontaneously start having babies and that you needed to take these tablets to stop it.

When I was younger, my dad used to play at a football ground with his mates. I was really naughty so she told me to watch out for him on tv and keep quiet. I watched a 90 minute match looking out for him, but then I realised that it was the women's football championships!
