Up until I went to uni in September, I believed I'd be the beautiful confident, mature, smart girl in the happy ending of the movies.*

PHAH!! To be honest, I'm actually LESS confident than I was at 16!

I'm 19 now.. and am getting rather frustrated by this.

*That bit probably doesn't make much sense.
You know the way the girl at the beginning of some movies is shy, geeky, etc; then she turns into a goddess? I thought I'd be like that.

I cant believe i believed this...i thought that getting fired meant that you did something wrong in work so they gave you a burn or a cut. It was all my dads fault. He was a carpenter so often he would get cuts. He would tell my mom that he did something wrong like doing this to fast and he would get cut. I also heard him say once that Ralph, a man who worked for him, got hurt because he was doing things half fast so he had to fire him.

When I was about 4 or 5, I had learned that blind people had "seeing-eye dogs" to help guide them around, and that many of these dogs were German Shepherds. My grandmother had a German Shepherd named Baron and he always seemed to be at her side. So one day I asked my mother "Is Grandma blind?" because I assumed that Baron was her guide dog.

One time when I was little and wasn't listening to my mom, she warned me to behave or else I would "live with the consequences!" I immediately asked "who are they?" (I imagined that the Consequences were a really mean old couple who lived in a house with no toys and didn't like kids.)

Once when I played with wet paint and got it all over me, my brother told me I would get "a lickin" when dad got home. I thought that meant I would get a popsicle. Boy was I suprised!

One summer I realized all kids got a break from school in the summer. So I asked Mom, "Does Dad go on summer vacation from work, too?" I guess I thought Dad was going to some kind of grown up school.

When I was a little girl we lived in what was then a country area. Looking at it now it is so close to our capital city that I have to laugh! Anyway, we went barefoot a lot, and I was the youngest of four. I clearly remember that if I stood on a rusty nail my father would give me a shiny new (Australian)penny to take my mind off it. I am now 65, and it is only recently that I have thought about it and realised that he must have cleaned up an old penny to make me feel good.Isn't that wonderful. What a great man he was!

I used to believe that my mother's side of the family and my father's side of the family were all related. So, I'd would be like,"Grandmother (mother's mother) have you seen Grandpapa(father's father) latley?" Even though they had never met!

I used to believe…

after watching roald dahl's "the witches" i used to believe my mother and every other female adult were out to eat me... they would all get together and swap recipes and decide whose child to have for dinner next at weekly meetings... i had a plan that upon capturement i would convince them somehow that i too was a witch and that my sister would make for better eating.

My mom is a doctor, and I remember that one day (I was about 6) she was talking about the fact that she had to perform a prostate exam. I had heard of a job called "prostitution" so I figuered that a prostitute was just someone who did prostate exams, (so basically, it was a fancy word for a doctor.) So, on parents day, (our parents came in and talked about what they did for a living) I wanted to impress my teacher by using big words... You can see where this is going. When it was my turn, I grabbed my mothers hand, marched up in front of the class, and loudly proclaimed "This is my mother, and she is a prostitute!"

Back in the days before kindergarten, my mom and I would watch a lot of craft shows in the daytime while my dad was at work. I remember watching one particular show about making clay pots, and how they go into a kiln to get "fired". My dad came home a little later that day and I overheard him talking to my mom about how he'd messed up some cabinets (he was a cabinet maker) and how he was afraid his boss would fire him. I ran over to him and started crying, thinking my dad was going to get glazed and tossed into a kiln for messing up the cabinets!
