I had very complex beliefs about marriage. I thought that, when a girl was ready to marry (in her late teens or early twenties), she would put on a wedding dress, get in a van, and have her parents drive her to the nearest city, bouquet in hand. She would then walk the streets of the city asking any man she saw to marry her, and, once she found someone, they would go to the nearest church and be married on the spot.

When I was maybe 6 years old I was looking at my parents wedding album. I was upset that I didn't get to be the flower girl. How could my parents choose not to have me in their wedding? My mom tried to explain I was born a few years after so I wasn't being excluded, but I was angry. She should've waited for me to be born so I could be in the wedding. It's funny to me now becuase my mom, who was a virgin when married because we're Chrisitan, couldn't have waited to have me first. It's impossible.

When I was young, I used to think that the amount of wrinkles an old person had corresponded with their age. For example, if a lady was 80 years old, she had to have 80 wrinkles on her face. Also, I believed that they would double in size each year, so by the time my grandfather would turn 100, his wrinkes would be so large that he would be unable to fit inside his bedroom.

Whenever I asked a question such as "How come my sister has to get braces?" my parents would answer "It's in her jeans, my parents both had them". I figured when you got to a certain age, you would recieve a pair of pants that would somehow determine your life.....im still waiting!! haha

When I was little, my family was talking about cars and my dad asked me what kind of car I wanted when I was older. I said, "I want a cloud car!" (from Care Bears...)

I also wanted to be a mermaid when I grew up.

I used to believe that, because my parents were 4 years apart, every couple had to be four years apart to get married, and that the man ALWAYS had to be older.

My daughter believed that the older you got the darker you got and that is how black people came into being. Her dad's family is Native American, he was dark, his mother darker and his grandmother even darker. When we moved into a new neighborhood with a black nex door neighbor, she kept referring to him as that really old black man. He was probably 40 at the time.

My dad was a financial investment advisor. When I was little and he would come home at night, my mom would always ask him how the stock market was that day. And he would always answer that it went up or down. Until I was about 10, i pictured a huge stadium with socks on pegs filling every wall and a ceiling that rose and fell.

When I was a kid I used to think that the critics were actually a real board of people whose job it was to find problems with everyones work. I decided that I wanted to be one when I grew up.

My grandad has a small scar on his face and he told me (very convincingly) it was where a bullet had skimmed past him during WW2. It was only about four years ago when I was telling this to my husband that my mother told me my grandad had infact fell over one night on the way home from the pub! He has several war related stories, some of them true, some I now take with a pinch of salt!

I used to believe that once you got out of Pre-school you instantly went to work and worked in the same profession as your father. On the day we had a little pre-school graduation thing I went up to my father and started crying telling him I was a failer and would have to be homeless because I didn't know how to be an accountant.

My brother and I thought that Grandma lived at the airport because that's where we always went to get her. Then when we were tired of her, we took her back.

When I was little I believed that every family was exactly like mine. They lived with their grandparents who argued every day, the father was robust and the mother was always concerned with making sure the house was clean enough to eat off the floors. The older sibling was mean and bossy and the younger was just kinda' thrown in to watch it all happen.
