When I was four or five I asked my mom if I could have an older sister. She tried to explain that while I might get a younger brother or sister, I couldn't have an older one.

I sighed in exasperation and said "I guess I'll just have to get a maid."

It turned out I thought that if I had an older sister, she'd have to pick up all the toys!

When I was around 5, I thought that we all grew up to be animals. I told my Mom that I was going to be a horse. You see, I believed my Dad when he told me I had horse's blood in me. (Never mind the fact that my parents were grown up and THEY hadn't turned into animals)

I used to believe…

Once, we were driving through a group of greenies obstructing traffic in protest.. I looked up at them in awe and decided then and there that that's what I wanted to be. I tried to think of what those funny smelly people with painted signs were called, and a moment later hastened to tell Mum my heart's desire was to be a 'prostitute'

When I would get hurt, or get a splinter in my finger my mom would tell me that my dad used to be a doctor so he knew how to help me without hurting me. I seriously thought my dad used to be a doctor, and I would only let them help me after they told me that.

My mother told me when I was little that they had forgotten to pay the bill at the hospital and if I made too much noise the hospital bill collectors would come and reposess me.

My parents marriage was very volatile when I was little. I remember once overhearing a conversation between Mom and my older sister. Mom whispered that Daddy was stepping out on her. I instantly pictured Daddy with big long rubbery legs, taking great big steps down the road and remember wondering what was so wrong with that.

When he was around five, my little brother always used to tell everyone that he wanted to be a bulldozer driver when he grew up. This was because he had once found a quarter in the dirt near a bulldozer at a new housing development we were visiting, and he apparently got the idea that bulldozers regularly dug up money and if he had one of his own, he could find all the money buried under the ground and eventually become rich.

I used tot hink that working at McDonald's was a really big honor.

Well, one day when my mom and I went to a pool and a friend of her's asked me what I wanted to do when I got older, I proudly announced that 'I don't want to go to college, I wanna be a McDonald's worker!' Yeah...my mom got embarrassed.

When I was a little kid I used to believe that as people grew up, their bodies didn't grow but an older version of them just grew around the younger version like a shell and that person would take over. There were different stages as you grew up and I though that when I was a teenager I'd be trapped inside some teenage guy's body, and then later we would both be trapped inside an adult body..and so on.
Funny thing was, when I explained this to my Grandma at the age of five she understood it! I remember she made a joke and said, "My God, I must have a ton of people trapped inside me."

I have LOTS of cousins: 12 on my mum's side and 16 on my dad's, so I thought that cousins were a sort of electorial thing, a bit like adoption. I thought if you said it enough, someone would become your cousin, so for about 2 years my friend and I told everyone we were cousins to try and make it so. We had documents and everything.

I used to believe that all people who had jobs were adults, with the exception of maybe the paper boy. It took me years to realize that those people working behind the counter at McDonald's are just teenagers.

My parents had some friends who were childless, and once they told me that I was going to spend the night with them, I became terrified that they would like me too much and never give me back. My parents and the friends laughed, but I didn't believe them.

When I was little my Mom and Dad told me Id been found in a skip behind the hospital - I believed it for years until I blurted it out and school one day and my parents had to come down and explain!!! How mean is that??

I thought that adults have been adults for their whole lives, kids have always been kids, and old people were always old. A while after that I realized that wasn't true. So then I told my friend that we all grow up, and he acted like I was really stupid.

When i was little my friends actually got me to belive that when you would grow up u would change so that if you were a girl when u grew up u would become a boy, and the same if you were a boy but just opposite. it took me 6 years to figure it out that it was untrue
