I used to believe that work would end. All the adults - like my mom and dad - were working. All the time. And they must be working toward something. Some goal. And when they were done, we would all just relax.

Me and my sister used to think that my dad owned all the Toms Restaurants because his name was Tom.
We also used to think that our mom's job was to hand out suckers at the bank because everytime we went there that was the only thing that we focused on. ;)

when i was about five it was my grandparents' wedding anniversary. My mum told me that it meant that they'd been married for forty years. I thought she meant that they got married again every year.
I used to believe my parents were trying to kill me. If I was going to enter a room or take a shower, I'd wait ten minutes or so longer than I otherwise would have because they knew that I was going to go there and they had boobie trapped the place. And if I was getting in the car with them, I'd say I was gonna get in the front seat, then sit in the back seat or vice-versa to throw them off.
I used to think my biological father was Goofy, and that he lived in a big brick building(Disney Land)up the road when I was 4.

When my son was young (about 3) he believed that people were born male and then grew up and got to be mommies. He was going to have 100 babies when he was a mommy. It made me feel really special and loved that he thought I was the pinnacle of evolution :}
I'm sure so many people have thought like this when they were little but I'm sharing anyway. When I was little and my parents would go out, my siblings and I would of course have a babysitter. We would always go to bed before they got home, and I always thought it was because we went to sleep that they came home. I was always relieved to see them when I woke up the next morning. Babysitters are evil. :p

In the musical Fiddler On The Roof, for years I thought a 'matchmaker' was a person in a town who made matches for a living...Couldn't understand why anyone would do that for a living. I finally saw the musical in high school and hit my forehead mid act, 'duhhhh!'

I used to believe that Mr. T was my father and Nancy Reagan was my mother. My mom would tell me this when I was bad!!
I believed that grown-up men were automatically older than grown-up women (i.e., Dad was automatically older than Mom), and a taller grown-up was older than a shorter grown-up. Luckily, my Mom was shorter than, and younger than my Dad, so no cause for utter confusion. I also thought that grown-ups who played on the floor with kids (my Aunt) were younger than those who were too busy to (my Mom). In fact, my Aunt is 10 years older than my Mom.
I used to believe that on Valentines day, Jack Valentine used to come to my house and bring me gifts. I soon cottoned on that it was my mum, but i should of guessed really, as when she went out they always used to tell me to go look for him out of the back door instead of the front!!!!!

My father worked for GE, I thought all GE did was make light bulbs. I didn't realize that he was an engineer for GE, until I told my family to leave him alone, that he was tired from making light bulbs all day.

When I was little, I wanted so much to have a twin. I believed I could really be two people, and we would agree on everything. I had a Wispy Walker doll that was nearly as tall as me. I had learned in church that if you prayed and truly believed with all your might, God would give you whatever you wanted. So I prayed that my Wispy Walker doll would come to life and be my twin. I prayed this for a really long time, honestly believing it would happen. When it didn't, I decided that she had come to life on the inside, but that her hard plastic skin kept her from moving, so I immediately slathered her all up and down with my mom's skin lotion, expecting it to soften the plastic into real skin and allow her to be alive. It never worked, and I was so surprised because I really thought I believed with all my might. It was some time later that I realized God doesn't always say "yes" when we ask for things. Sometimes the answer is "no" or "not right now."

When I was about 5 or 6, I used to believe that when a girl wanted to get married, she would go out in a wedding dress, and propose to any man passing by whom she fancied!
